London's De Vere Cavendish Hotel is offering a new service. In a new partnership with Waterstones Piccadilly, Europe's largest bookstore, the De Vere's "Book at Bedtime" program can hook you up with the book of your choice within minutes. Guests can choose a title from the hotel's Recommended Reading list or request a copy of that book they left at home or have been meaning to pick up; all it takes is a call to the concierge.

An optional service for frequent travellers who like to read in bed or who want a cozy, personalized touch in an otherwise impersonal (albeit lux) hotel room, the program may be a little too personal for some.

According to Hotel News Resource:

VIP and frequent corporate guests will be treated to the occasional surprise book where the hotel will use its discretion to identify their favourite authors and leave one of their titles in the rooms ready for when they arrive.

"Their discretion," eh? This could get a little creepy on two fronts: One, wouldn't it be a little odd to find your favorite book waiting for you unexpectedly in a fresh hotel room? And two, wouldn't you notice the shadowy figures lurking behind you in the airport bookshop?

Paranoid fantasies aside, it looks like the De Vere has hit upon an intriguing new amenity that will may well serve as a draw to London's more bookish travelers -- especially the mystery-lovers.
