Amangani Resort: Nirvana in the Tetons

Currently the only Aman resort in the US, Amangani at Jackson Hole feels distinctly un-American. After being picked up in the hotel's Lexus SUV's, the massive wood door is opened by a cleaned up mountain boy uniformed in black pants and a black t-shirt with Amangani spelled across in white lettering. The look is clean, sharp and seamless just like the hotel itself. Um yeah, they have their own bottled water.
The lobby is characterized by its massive picture window expanding two stories and about twenty feet across. It offers a breathtaking view of the plains below and the tetons off to the right.
The best rooms are those with the balconies looking out over the pool. They are decorated with dark redwood beams, gas fireplaces and showers with full-length views. The bathtubs are also worth noting as Amagani offers their own line of soaps, bubble bath mix and scented candles - bathing in the mountains never felt this good!
Two final distinctions are the food and the concierge. First, the breakfasts are delicious and as hearty or light as desired which was particularly appreciated when one day's activities differed from the others. The dinners with everything from local elk to sumptious rack of lamb are not to be missed!
The Concierge at Amangani were incredibly helpful. We enjoyed every activity from mountain climbing to white water rafting to fly-fishing and never were pressed to organize any of the painstaking details of it all. We were led to the best outfits and had wonderful experiences with each adventure.
No denying this piece of bliss will come at a comprable price, but for the best home away from home to return to after a hard day's activities, its well worth it.
