Sexual fantasies come alive at Canadian hotels

Where: Canada
November 11, 2004 at 6:50 AM | by markj | 0 Comments

Picture this, you are looking over your room service menu and you glance past an item called "Aphrodisiac", which comes with truffles, chocolate sauce, strawberries, and whipped cream, your mind starts to wonder.  Meanwhile, you glance through your in room marketing material and you keep reading  "W Montreal:  Whatever, Whenever" all over the place, so you call up the concierge, and he confirms that he will get you whatever you want, as long as it is legal, and you remember you are in Canada! (so everything is legal, right?)  "Whatever, Whenever" is the motto of the brand spankin' new W  Montreal, and after talking with Pom, who works the front desk, we are believers in this "Whatever, Whenever" stuff.  Pom spoke of some sexy in room features, including voyeur showers with blue glass and a "peekaboo window" bathroom (think no glass) that encourages guests to watch each other shower. As for that "Aphrodisiac" item on the room service menu, Pom said, with a French accent, "as a guest, you can use your imagination with that one".

The W's sexy design, and hints at sex, seem tame compared to the 19 room Drake Hotel in Toronto.  At the Drake they skip the innuendo and jump right to the sex toys.  The Drake offers guests a "pleasure menu" - which includes massage oils, velvet restraints, condoms, how-to videos, and a selection of vibrators.  Look at the picture of the Drake to the right; do we see a couple of  "pleasure menu" items strategically placed on the bed?

"Hotels have always represented an opportunity for guests to experiment, to improvise, to fantasize," says Drake hotelier Jeff Stober, "We're merely a conduit to those aspirations."

These Canadians are quite the free-thinking progressives aren't they? Looks like our neighbors to the north have a certain je ne sais quoi.
