Fairmont Kansas City at the Plaza
The Good: "awesome view"
The Bad: "spotty service"
"Rooms in need of a big-time renovation mean it's just a shadow of what it used to be when it was a Ritz Carlton".
Fairmont spokesman: "It doesn't sound like someone who has been here in a while...we've spent well over $10 million in interior renovation alone since becoming a Fairmont property, and then some. Next year we'll be redoing all the carpet and walls in the hallways."
Hotel Phillips
The Good: "stunning...charming...touch of the old KC"
The Bad: "may be in a rundown part of town"
GM's Response: "Pretty soon we won't have to listen to this kind of stuff" (He was speaking about how the KC downtown resurgence will vindicate his hotel from these negative comments).
Hotel Raphael: (pictured above)
The Good: "quaintly romantic...understate"
"European grace"
The Bad: "her tiara may need polishing" (Zagat's speak for "it's time for a renovation)
GM's Response: "I don't think it's so bad, we're always trying to improve ourselves, and it's good to get comments from the outside."
Right on Hotel Raphael, we like that response.
