W Happening at Union Square NYC features John Waters

Whappenings is W Hotels interactive calendar site listing upcoming events at W Hotels in NY, Chicago, and LA.

The events, which started in October and go through next April, feature everything from culinary activities to dressing drag, and from hip-hop to celebrity makeup, each event focues on a different target, and features big names from each topic area. Admission to the events depends on availability, but we would recommend calling the hotel where the event will be held, and asking how one might gain admission to one of these events.

We checked out the Inide film event earlier this week at the Union Square W in NY. The event did have its share of hiccups, including John Cameron Mitchell, of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, bailing at the last minute, and Justin Theroux, of Mullholand Drive, being almost inaudible throughout the entire panel discussion (he was busy eating M&M's or something). However, John Water's presence saved the day. He was funny, engaging, and audible. His most memorable quote of the evening concerned the threat of consumers downloading and watching movies on the Internet. Waters exclaimed, "I have never watched a movie on a computer, only in the theatre", after a beat he added, "well, except for porn movies". Waters even hung around a bit after the panel discussion ended, to hang out with the event attendees, which folks seemed to appreciate.

This whole W happenings campaign is dubbed "Adventures in Wonderland", and W is hoping that embarking on this series of events will help add to the "W" experience as a whole.
