Ok - so next time your significant other is threatening to leave you because you never do anything special (ie, spoil them rotten) - take heed because this is the destination that will solve all.  Provided you are a millionaire or can handle credit debt for a few years.

The Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli is a private residence turned small hotel on the shores of Northern Italy's Lake Garda.  Its so fabulous that Mussolini took it for his private residence from 1943 to 1945.  Now as a small luxury hotel, the service is impeccable, the rooms are luxurious, if not ornate and the romance pretty much drips from the trees.

Biggest romantic clue in - the turndown service is apparently so well done that when you return to your room in the evening they have a scented candle burning, the gorgeous curtains drawn and no joke, rose petals strewn in the bathroom.

If that can't fix a petulant partner then hell, dump 'em.
