Wynning at Foursquare

Telling Foursquare what you like about The Wynn's Pizza Place may be read by other guests and also by The Wynn.

In Las Vegas at the The Wynn and its sister hotel, The Encore, which have nearly 5,000 rooms between them, Foursquare is viewed as another tool for building a "positive community base around guests' experiences" according to Jade Bailey-Assam, the e-strategy development manager for Wynn and Encore.

In short, the stress here is not freebies and rewards for folks who simply check-in (in the Foursquare sense) but rather to monitor the resorts' reputations and encourage guests to interact with each other--with the added intention of getting guests to shop and eat and play inside the property.

"We, as an integrated resort, have an advantage in that we have a variety of places and amenities for guests to explore," Bailey-Assam says. "Encouraging guests to check-in and write tips to each other will hopefully get the guest to be more engaged. The great thing about a supportive user community is that there is an inherent level of trust between the users. "

Looking for a comped room from your Foursquare activity? Bailey-Assam says the resorts consider a highly engaged user to be "invaluable" and they could reward the user with a complimentary room for participation but as an on-going promotion.

"What we would recognize are users who provide great tips and relevant tips to the rest of the community, not necessarily check-ins," she says.

(Of course, if you really want a comp you can always get a tattoo of the hotel's logo on your leg. A bit more permanent than Foursquare but it worked for that guy.)
