Borgata :: Nightlife
The first bar that we checked out in the Borgata was the Gypsy Bar. The bar is a sort of Coyote Ugly-inspired place but much more upscale. They have comfortable leather lounge seating as well as tables for dining. There's also 80 tequilas and 15 different kinds of beers behind the bar.
Before the live music starts (which happens most every night), we recommend getting in there and doing some Tequlia Tasting. At $20 a person, the tasting gives you three flights of different kinds of Herradura tequila, a lesson on tasting techniques, a margarita and a mojito and plenty of water. Supplement the tasting (i.e. coat your stomach) by ordering some chips with salsa, cheese and guacamole dips.
While Gypsy Bar is more a chill place to hang-out, MIXX is the opposite. It's a big clubby warehouse with go-go dancers atop giant black boxes. The club's description mentions an Asian-Latin fusino decor but honestly, it was too dark to make out any type of decor.
As we mentioned before, we hit up MIXX for the True Colors concert after party "hosted" by Perez Hilton. Technically, this was the place's first "Gay Night" although it wasn't official. We took a reserved table enclosed in the back wall and spent a good two hours people watching. By midnight the place was packed but we were still able to navigate through the crowd. We have, however, been to MIXX on another occasion where the line wrapped around the casino floor outside and once inside (after paying a cover of some sorts) we could hardly move.
That said, MIXX is the place to go if you want to dance. Just make sure you are drunk before you walk in there. It will be much easier to handle.
With Gypsy Bar and MIXX you have two extreme nightlife choices--tequila and jamming band sessions or red bull vodka and go-go dancers--but with mur.mur you have an option that's in between. Billed as an "intimate nightclub" with a "sensual atmosphere", mur.mur is where the celebs would hang out away from the madness of MIXX or if you want a private party. Celebrity guest DJs like DJ AM have spun their tunes here and The Black Eyed Peas, The Killers, Gnarls Barkely, Adrien Grenier and Jamie-Lynn Sigler have all partied here. Bottle service is recommended.
