HotelChatter's Guide To Hot Honeymoon Hotels
1. ENCANTADO RESORT & SPA
Where Is It: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Romantical Reason to Book: Sister to the famed Auberge du Soleil and Esperanza Resorts in Napa and Cabo San Lucas, the latest pedigreed property in the Auberge Resort collection, Encantado, embraces five-star luxury while respecting Santa Fe’s Native American spirit. Taking advantage of Santa Fe’s endless supplies of sunshine, villa-style casitas are contemporary, airy and earthy. Kitted with adobe fireplaces, deep soaking tubs, heated bathroom floors and spacious dressing areas, rooms exemplify comfortable opulence.
Local Colorado products in the mini-bar (Cap Rock Organic Grape Vodka and C.G. Higgins Caramel Corn) are a thoughtful touch. Relax at The Spa with regionally inspired couples’ treatments, or “interludes,” like The Art of Surrender – an open-air soak, steam, sauna and massage in a private suite.
Later at night, indulge in sunset cocktails at The Bar and a globe-spanning culinary adventure at Terra, voted one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants 2008. Complimentary shuttles run regularly into town and guests have access to Encantado’s downtown concierge center.
What It Costs: Rates start at $475 a night.
2. SEVEN STARS RESORT
Where Is It: Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos
Romantical Reason to Book: What better way to commemorate your honeymoon than by having a star named after you and newly betrothed? The Seven Stars Resort in Turks and Caicos is doing just that as part of their newlywed package. This service is actually quite fitting for the all-suite island hotel which is named after the Pleiades constellation. Couples will receive a parchment certificate upon returning home with the telescopic coordinates for their star provided by International Star Registry (Note: this is not any sort of astrological governing body, it's just for fun!)
When you're not gazing at "your star," you can relax in the resort's salt-water pool, go on a snorkeling adventure or take a day trip to one of the private islands with a chef-prepared picnic. Relaxing in-room is just as good too with a gourmet kitchen that can be pre-stocked before your arrival, a Nespresso machine for an instant caffeine jolt and picturesque ocean views.
And if you like the look of the resort so much you want to have your wedding here, you will receive a complimentary upgrade to an ocean front suite and a complimentary couples massage.
What It Costs: Rates start at $450 and two-night minimum is required.
3. THE SONORA RESORT
Where Is It: British Columbia
Romantical Reason to Book: Stunning wilderness surroundings lure honeymooners to this archipelago along British Columbia’s west coast. Tucked away about two hours north of Vancouver, Sonora Resort offers first class outdoor activities in an all inclusive, five star experience.
Accessible only by sea and air, the unspoiled natural beauty and seclusion of Sonora Resort lends itself to romance. From the guest rooms, see wild, snowy mountain top landscapes, as well as including eagles, seals to bears. Geared towards outdoor enthusiasts, couples can reconnect after a day of eco or heli-tours at the lodge’s lauded spa or by taking a dip in the outdoor heated pool.
What It Costs: Rates start at $500 (USD).

4. LA SAMANNA
Where Is It: St Martin
Romantical Reason to Book: Honeymooners have long flocked to St. Martin for its idyllic backdrops and seamless harmony of sun and sea. Blink and you may miss the gate to La Sammana. Venture down a small road to find total seclusion in an alcove facing the French side of St. Martin. Despite its privileged location, couples are a short ride from top tourist destinations, Marigot and Grand Case.
After a multi-million dollar makeover in 2007, the 81-room, suite and villa Mediterranean-style beach front property (member of the Orient-Express family of hotels) is more luxurious than ever. Feel like you’re at the end of the world in an infinity edge pool that faces the clear waters of Baie Longue, a pristine white beach.
Or escape with your beloved to a private beachside cabana, complete with butler-style service, iPods, complimentary chilled water, fruit kebabs and sorbets and cold towels to soothe the midday sun. The property also sports a fleet of yachts and cruisers and the only Pilates studio in the Caribbean.
What It Costs: Rates start at $995 (USD).
5. HOTEL VILLA DELIA
Where Is It: Tuscany, Italy
Romantical Reason to Book:The Italians seem to have mastered the art of savoring the good life and the tastes of Tuscany are celebrated around the globe. This tranquil rural land of Michelangelo and Machiavelli offers medieval towns and monasteries, as well as scenic bike rides, walks and hikes of the valley’s rolling hills.
The lucky location Hotel Villa Delia is within an hour’s drive of Pisa, Florence and Siena. Cradled in the countryside near the village of Ripoli di Lari, this restored 17th century country estate sits amongst acres of olive groves, Mediterranean gardens, and vineyards.
The 24 guest rooms are more "old world charm" than modern living but the big draw of the hotel is its Tuscany Cooking School. The couple who makes pasta together, stays together, right? If anything, the cooking lessons will make writing "Thank You" notes for zesters, tongs and spice racks a little easier.
We'd say pop in here for the five-day/four nights package to learn some authentic Italian cooking at the end of your trip. You know, after you've had plenty of alone time. (Wink, wink.) Otherwise, you can soak up the good smells without the work.
What It Costs: Rates start at $487 a night (USD)for just a room. Cooking school package prices available upon request.
