Panama City: Come To Panama For The Canal, Stay for the Cool Hotel Art

It's been two weeks since we returned from Panama, but still we find ourselves <del>flipping</del> clicking through our photos from the trip and letting out tiny sighs. One thing we loved about almost every hotel we visited was all the cool lobby art on display—all of which had a great way of summing up the look and feel of each property.
Inside the lobby at Gamboa Rainforest Resort, there's so much animal art, it feels like the safari's begun before you even setting foot in the rainforest! In addition to banners embroidered with frogs and butterflies hanging from the ceiling—not to mention some beautiful metal sculptures of birds poised in mid-flight—we loved this intricate metalwork on the railings,

Now What's Your Excuse? Westin Rolls Out New Guest-Approved Fitness Studios

Especially if they involve sweating up a storm. But Westin Hotels hasn't!
Westin Hotels & Resorts is transforming the fitness centers at each of its 186 hotels around the world, based on research into what guests want in a hotel gym. The new design means new equipment, more floor space for stretching, yoga and other mat-based work, and something called blue-light therapy.

New York: Whatever They're Planning, It Better Not Be Another Westin Times Square Eyesore

Now, we find out that $65 million is being poured into the building for what they're calling an "extensive re-branding initiative."
Fine. The part that gets us, though, is when they mention that the entire facade of the building is gonna be transformed as well. Ah, real monsters! We desperately hope Westin isn't sketching out a repeat of their purple-and-blue stripey Times Square mess (which we once upon a time dubbed one of the ugliest hotels alive). For a 774-room hotel in midtown Manhattan, we're not sure what kind of "statement"

You're tired from the trip, yet excited to be somewhere new, yet disoriented by the unfamiliar scenery—often all at once. Without your wits about you, how are you supposed to determine which side of the building to request to get the best room view? Well, in the case of Westin Playa Bonita, let us point you in the right direction: between two options (Rainforest view and Ocean view), always, always pick the Ocean view.
We were lucky enough to get given a room with an Ocean view right off the bat. Fortunately, it will be a lot easier to do come December 28 as Westin has just announced they will be selling the Heavenly Beds online at Pottery Barn (as well as in Pottery Barn stores and through their catalog.)
Actually the Heavenly-Barn roll-out will be a little staggered. You can purchase a Heavenly Bed in twin, full, queen, king and California king sizes, priced from $1,195 to $1,795, online starting on December 28 and then you can go into Pottery Barn store
