In a truly bizarre turn for the hotel industry, the European Best Western reservations database was hacked last week. Information on former and future guests for the last year was stolen, including names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card information, and even places of employment. Ack!

The Jason Bourne-like heist involved a hack using an employee account login which siphoned the data. The data was then sold on a underground website operated by the Russian mafia.

Some are saying it's the greatest cyber-heist in world history which could affect up to 8 million people in several different ways.

easyHotel Finds Expansion Easy

The folks over at extreme budget chain easyHotel have an ambitious goal of introducing 200 hotels in 10 years (it took them three years since the chain's 2005 debut to implement five hotels) and thanks to a new development deal with the UK-based Eclipse Hotel Group, easyHotel will put up 10 more properties across the UK over the next four years.

Apparently, "the easyHotel brand and super-budget model have significant growth potential in the UK," Eclipse Hotel Group's Managing Director, Sameer Damji, said in a press statement. Perhaps that's because everything in the UK is so bloody expensive? Drop those pounds already!
