A tipster forwarded us the email response he got when he inquired about making a reservation at the hotel. Here's what the letter said: <blockquote> We are expecting to have a soft opening with "preview rates" available mid-November. The exact date is still unknown due to construction timelines etc. The very instance we know, we will be posting it, along with on-line booking functionality onto our website.</blockquote>This sounds promising but we won't hold our breath.

We scored some shots (via a friend of a friend) from the <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/hotel-reviews/The+Standard+NYC/local/795">Standard NYC</a>'s construction sight. This was snapped a little over a week after we stomped around there <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/story/2008/9/5/131138/7916/hotels/Party_Dispatch_Interview_Magazine_Party_at_The_Standard_NYC">for a party</a>, and we'll be the first ones to say that the view from what we presume to be the 18th floor restaurant space is just as beautiful in the daylight. We'll also be the first ones to note that the amount of progress made here -- or rather, not made here -- has been shocking. Did cleaning up from the party take them a little bit longer than anticipated, thereby halting all construction progress for many, many days? What is the deal

New York: The Standard NYC Readies for Fashion Week; Ticks Off Neighbors

What is this? Luxury hotel construction pissing off the neighbors? Why, it can't be!

Yet that's the word on the street from the New York Daily News. For New York's Fashion Week, Andre Balazs' unfinished Standard Hotel is hosting Interview magazine's redesign party and the overtime construction has the neighbors wishing workers would check out early.

Can't say we blame them! First the sounds of 7 a.m.-to-7 p.m. construction and then being subjected to the smell of model vomit? We'd be pretty teed off too.
