San Francisco: Hotel Vertigo Makes Us Dizzy With Excitement

We love us some shtick--like when that mental-hospital hotel opens, we're so there--which is why we're really excited for Hotel Vertigo (formerly Personality Hotel's York Hotel), officially opening in San Francisco in December.

For starters, the 97-room hotel has myriad references to its namesake Alfred Hitchcock movie starring James Stewart and Kim Novak: the movie will play on the white Carerra marble floors, guests will be offered "Madeline" cookies at check in (the name of Novak's character) and in 2009, Hotel Vertigo will host readings and movie showings of Hitchcock's films.

Seems it may have needed the upgrade. <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60713-d81520-Reviews-Hotel_Union_Square-San_Francisco_California-m10559.html">One guest</a> who stayed as recently as March said "never again" about his stay, thanks to a small room and air-conditioner that didn't work, two of the more common complaints among other guests. But come April, that had changed--at least according to the sole reviewer who stayed at the hotel since the start of its renovation: "Our room on the fifth floor was plenty big enough for four of us," said one, who did note that the clan was used

The latter was famous for being the site of the Alfred Hitchcock film, Vertigo thus when the hotel finishes its renovation this August, it will sport an entirely new look (see rendering above) but still pay tribute to the movie.
