Miami Beach: Make Your Own Mondrian with Moooi Designs

During a recent stay at the Mondrian South Beach, we were quite taken with the “Sleeping Beauty’s Castle” concept of Dutch designer Marcel Wanders.

After looking back at some of our photos, we wondered if we might be able to recreate the look at home—or at least, parts of it. We’re not too keen on having one of these bug-eyed lady murals staring at us when we wake up every morning.

New York: Will the Mondrian SoHo Make Guests Check Their Clothes At The Door?

Hungry for details on all of the new hotels coming to Manhattan in the coming months, but operating on little intel, we are sometimes left to our imaginations. Like our musing about what the Mondrian SoHo will look like. So far, we’ve just seen this rendering, which doesn’t go far in helping us visualize what the hotel will look like in real-life.

West Hollywood: The Mondrian's $99 Deal Has Not Gone Smoothly

We thought that was a great deal for the hotel which just recently renovated its rooms. But as we see all too often with these sort of rate gimmicks, one reader had trouble booking the deal. Berk411 writes:

So I called the Mondrian to book my $99 room rate for Sept. 1st and 2nd. I spoke to a reservations agent that had no idea what I was talking about. I explained that I wanted the 9-9-09 special rate and that the promotion code was SPM999.
She explained to me

It'll only be open though August 30, but until then the 300-square foot space will feature swimwear designer Shay Todd’s "perfect mix of rich, lush and romantic colors carried through bikinis, one-pieces, cover-ups, renowned terry cloth loungewear, and accessories, perfectly suited to the hotel’s fun, sexy summer vibe."
Although it's the LA hotel's first pop-up,

New York: Mondrian SoHo Renderings Strike Terror In the Hearts of Foodies

Earlier this week, the renderings for Mondrian SoHo's new restaurant — which is being headed up by former Top Chef hottie Sam Talbot — surfaced on Eater. And people hate them. The blog Dreamtard actually posted the renderings first, claiming that the "light fixtures on the walls are actually motorized arms that light up and move as somebody walks by them." Uh, ew.
Choice Eater comments: "This design asks a simple question: What if Tron were haunted?" and "oy, serious uglies." We'll hold back on the commentary, especially given the rendering-to-reality discrepancies that we hope (pray) will come into play to tone some of this down in real life.
The hotel itself, by the way,
