New York: Gansevoort Owner Sorry for Billboard But It's Not Going Anywhere

<![CDATA[<img src="http://www.hotelchatter.com/files/3/hotel_gansevoort_billboard2.jpg" class="imgborder">With neighborhood businesses enforcing a boycott of the <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/hotel-reviews/Hotel+Gansevoort/local/34">Hotel Gansevoort</a> guests (thanks to the hotel's <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/story/2007/3/1/135959/1530/hotels/Billboard_Near_Hotel_Gansevoort_Still_Causing_Problems">eyesore of a billboard</a>), owner Michael Achenbaum was forced to apologize.<a href="http://www.nypost.com/seven/03092007/gossip/pagesix/hotels_sign_of_desperation_pagesix_.htm">Page Six</a> reports that Achenbaum sent out an email to neighbors which apologized for installing the billboards.<blockquote>"It was a business decision made without fully envisioning the sheer size of the signage and without understanding the emotional impact it would trigger," Achenbaum wrote. But the signs aren't moving. "As I am bound to a long-term lease to allow these legally designed and constructed signs, I have come to the table with local community members to suggest ways to minimize the aesthetic impact."</blockquote>So the billboards are here to stay but Achenbaum is

We asked you to send in photographic evidence of the blockage, and guess what? Hotel Gansevoort rep's emailed us saying the TripAdivisor commenter was way off base. Hotel Maven carlottavalez wants you to know staying in the Meatpacking District doesn't have to suck. Er, or at least you don't absolutely have to stay at at the Dennis Rodman of hotels. Here is her alternative. Enjoy.

Okay so I'm not sure any celebrities have actually ever stayed at Incentra Village House, a modestly priced Meatpacking hotel (for New York, $175 per night for a double), but it certainly has starred in an endless number of Greenwich Village exterior shoots and it is a damn fine alternative to the Gansevoort--for what it is worth.
