Portland: Portland's Hotel Fifty Will Be About Five Seconds Away from the Pirate Festival

Okay okay—we've seen better, but can you deny that the evening lighting on a modernist building such as Portland, Oregon's Hotel Fifty really brings out the magic of the architecture?
The updated property—which boasts amenities like Free WiFi and Simmons Beautyrest mattresses (oh, fancy), is not in the Pearl District as you'd first think, but instead right down along the Willamette River and Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Now here's why we're bringing it up now: if you're planning on watching or running the Portland Marathon on October 9 or heading to the Portland Pirate Festival which falls just after the marathon, you've got to scout hotels like now.

London: Cheap Massages for London Marathoners at Park Plaza Hotels

It’s a bit of a niche offer, this one, but if you happen to be running the London Marathon this Sunday, there’s a sweet deal going down at Park Plaza hotels for your recuperation period.
Bring your medal (wot, you have to finish it?) to the spa at PPs Baker Street, Victoria or County Hall, and they’ll knock 20 percent off a sports massage or a ‘destress muscle release’ massage, meaning you can get 30 minutes for £28 or an hour for £52 (and less than £1 a minute by London rates is pretty good).

Singapore: Swissotel Gets Guests To Take The Stairs

Some people go on vacation to run insanely up the stairs of their 73-storey hotel. And if you're staying at the Swissotel Stamford in Singapore in late November, you're likely to encounter some of the second type.
On Sunday November 22, at the much-too-early time of 7.00am, a bunch of people will begin the Swissotel Vertical Marathon 2009. This involves getting up to the top of the hotel the fastest, except taking the elevator doesn't count. The Men's Open and Women's Open champions will both win trips to New York – but not just to sightsee, they'll then compete in the similarly crazy Empire
