Returning to a city where we were once a local and having to stay in a hotel can be a jarring experience. So to soften the pains we opted to check out what is currently Chicago's hottest hotel property: The James.
According to The James' website, we are supposed to keep our eyes open for more properties to come in both New York and Miami, as Chicago is the standard-bearer. Turns out The James is exactly what the blustery old hotel scene of Chicago needs; it rivals the attentiveness of The Peninsula while standing out from other heavily-tapestried properties around Michigan Avenue.

When a friend invited us to join her on a little sojourn to Las Vegas to check out the Cher show, we jumped at the chance. Sweetening the deal was her room at the Trump Las Vegas, a new hotel which we have seen from afar but had never stepped inside.
Yesterday, we reported that we were liking the Trump after one day. There were some downsides but overall we were kinda loving it. Having no casino or nightlife, it was a refreshing change of pace for this frequent Vegas visitor.

Last month, we spent a night inside 60 Thompson in Soho, New York--a hotel we had not slept at since 2002, way before the Thompson Hotels began expanding at a rapid rate.
So how does this flagship property hold up compared to the newfangled properties that Thompson has since opened, including the three that opened in NYC in the past year--6 Columbus, Gild Hall and Thompson LES? We have to say, 60 Thompson is still very, very, very good.

We were up in Vancouver, B.C. for an 08.08.08 wedding this weekend and stayed in Kimpton's Pacific Palisades Hotel to supplement our sloshy time with a bit of "fun and fabulous" (the hotel's tagline) -- but, unfortch, so was everyone else in the greater Vancouver metro area! It was busy! It was an adventure!

Aloft was probably the most over hyped hotel brand, ever, so needless to say we were all a little asick of aloft long before they opened a hotel. However, visiting the aloft Lexington changed all that.
We get it. Starwood is gussying up roadside hotels and making them millennial nostalgic, if there is such a thing, and you know what? Roadside hotels were in need of some millennializing. ]]>
