Miami: Everything Takes a Bit Longer in Miami, Including the Opening of Element

If there's one thing that Miami and hotel openings have in common it's that they both make you wait longer than you'd like. Especially when you need to get permits from City officials to open your doors.
Which is all to say: we're not surprised that Element Miami is still a few weeks away and not already open as we thought it might be by now.
The hotel's website is saying Opening February 16--but taking reservations from March 1. A rep for Element tells us it's safe to say it will be open in 'late February.' And the earliest night we could find a room is March 11, for $159 a night.

Here's a quick round-up of the hotels that have just opened and what their room rates are for tonight:
· Trump Toronto: Trump took Toronto yesterday when they opened their seventh eponymous hotel. Last we checked opening rates were nearly $600 but we were relieved to see that rates tonight are down to $474 a night and that includes a deluxe king room starting at a whopping 550-sq.ft., breakfast for two, internet, local calls and a suite upgrade for an extra $50. The offer is good through February 29.
· <a

Today we're starting with the Tryp by Wyndham Times Square South which will finally open on February 1st.
We found a non-refundable rate of just $161.10 on opening night for a deluxe king bed. Regular rates for that same room category are only a bit more at $179 a night. The 32-room hotel with a "European inn" vibe was set to open in February and guess what, it's actually opening on the very first day of next month.
The hotel's website is touting a pre-opening special of $150 a night but for February 1, we could only find rooms at $199 a night for a queen bedroom. Meanwhile Jetsetter.com is hyping stays for just $115 a night on February 1st. Definitely the better deal here. (The flash sale site is also saying the hotel is "Just Opened" but we swear it's not

Sydney: Park Hyatt Sydney Will Reopen March 1 at $855 a Night

We knew the big, big revamp of the Park Hyatt Sydney was going to be a big deal. But deal is not a word you're going to hear in any other capacity when it comes to this harbour-front icon.
Apparently the hotel is on track to re-open in mid-February but is taking reservations from March 1 onwards. And the starting rate for a night on March 1st? $AUD 855 a night.
Before you think, but hey, that's Aussie dollars. It's got to be cheaper when you convert it, right? --check out how strong that Aussie dollar is. The rate converts to $893 US dollars. Ouch.
