Las Vegas: Fire at The Hard Rock Disrupts Rehab, Sportsbook and Naptime

Talk about a major party foul. An electrical fire yesterday at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas sent guests scrambling from all parts of the hotel, including the sportsbook during the opening day of the NFL and from Rehab, the hotel's infamous pool party. KTNV reports:

The fire was started by an air conditioning unit overheating in a wall between the existing resort and a new building being built on site. There were no fire alarms in the area where the fire flared up, but the heavy smoke alerted security and guests.

Thanks to a bomb scare which turned out to be a false alarm, the French Riviera became everything we've imagined and more yesterday. When the posh seaside Hotel Negresco alerted its 158 guests and staff to a bomb threat, they fled the building in all states at the break of dawn.

Among them was French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaulthier, who fled the hotel clad only in a white dressing gown and joined other alarmed guests by the beach. Apparently the bomb threat was called in by a woman who said that it would detonate at 6:00 AM, and when it hadn't by 7:00 AM, the scene dispersed and the hotel returned to normal.

But! Someone on the property wasn't really obeying safety practices! Or, rather, someone made an oopsie: on opening weekend, the $480 million resort in Rancho Palos Verdes was evacuated "after a laundry room caught fire and smoke got into the air conditioning system," according to the <a href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/06/21/state/n183216D29.DTL&tsp=1">San Francisco Chronicle</a>.
