The one at the Bellagio started when a mattress caught fire. Three floors had to be evacuated. One man was burned and several others suffered from smoke inhalation. Dubai: Fire Strikes the Almost-Opened Atlantis Hotel in Dubai

<![CDATA[<img align="right" src="http://www.hotelchatter.com/images/icon_small_hell.gif">The over-the-top, extravagant and still under construction <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/story/2008/8/12/13317/8285/hotels/Why_Oh_Why_Put_An_Atlantis_In_Dubai_">Atlantis Dubai</a>, expected to open later this month, was unexpectedly hit by a fire today. <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/news/article4660247.ece">The Times UK</a> has the detes:<blockquote>The fire broke out in the lobby of the Atlantis hotel this morning, causing workers to be evacuated. There were no casualties and no guests staying at the property. In a statement the hotel owners told Times Online: "There was limited damage to the external roof and lobby dome this morning as a result of a contained fire at Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah resort." </blockquote>The hotel owners insisted that the Atlantis Dubai, the first hotel to open on the man-made Palm island, will still be on track for a September

Guess what? There are more fires in California today. Ugh, just when we were getting over the devastating Big Sur Fire, another one has flared up.

If you're headed to Yosemite National Park shortly, you may want to rethink your trip. Or at least bring along a smoke mask. SF Chronicle reports that the Telegraph Fire has already destroyed 26,000 acres in rugged canyons 12 miles west of Yosemite, along with 12 homes and is set to get worse as the dry weather continues this week.

Washington: The Spitz Tryst Hotel Evacuates Guests

Whew, the Renaissance Mayflower is having a bang-up year. First former NY governor Eliot Spitzer was revealed to have paid for a pricey session with a call girl in room 871 under the guise of Client No. 9.

Now, the hotel has suffered from a minor fire. A generator on the roof burned out early this morning causing the hotel to evacuate all guests for 30 minutes (at 4:30am, mind you) including the Irish prime minister, Bertie Ahern.

No injuries were reported and guests were allowed back in their rooms. This looks like the same thing that happened at the Gansevoort South the other week. Is 2008 the year of Hotel Fires?

Miami Beach: Fire Breaks Out on Gansevoort South Rooftop

<![CDATA[<img src="http://www.hotelchatter.com/files/admin/gvoortfire.jpg" class="imgborder">UPDATE: Here's the official word from Robert Van Eerde, Managing Director of Gansevoort South:<blockquote> There was a small, contained fire on the unoccupied terrace at the penthouse level at Gansevoort South yesterday afternoon. The Fire Department responded immediately and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. No one was injured and damages were minimal. The hotel is fully operational. </blockquote><a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/hotel-reviews/Hotel+Gansevoort+South+%3A%3A+Paradiso+Miami/local/125">The Gansevoort South</a> was burning yesterday. Details are a little sketch but the <a href="http://www.southbeachrealestateblog.com/2008/04/17/miami-beach-real-estate-up-in-smoke-gansevoort-south-beach-burns/">South Beach Real Estate Blog</a> reported that the hotel had "flames shooting from the roof."
