For once, you may not want to stay in the penthouse

We may have been unimpressed by our Strip view being obscured by Donny and Marie at the Flamingo Las Vegas, but we - and the Flamingo - aren't the only ones.

HotelChatter reader Stan contacted us to say that he felt for us, having experienced the same at the Mirage. Only problem is, he wasn't talking about a $45 room as we were. He was talking about a high falutin suite.

Bad news: when we stayed there again this week, the wrap is back, and its ruining the view again. This is what we got on our first attempt from an almost identical room overlooking the Strip. If you squint, you can almost see the Bellagio fountains. Los ANgeles: The Wilshire Grand Hotel in LA Gets Approval for Trippy Digital Billboards

We seriously hope this hotel is investing in some good black-out shades.

The Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown LA is about to undergo a billion dollar rebuild, financed randomly by Korean Air, and they have just won approval from the city to put trippy digital billboards all over the building.

The LA Times reports:

That district will allow various kinds of digital advertising on the first 10 floors of the two towers. The tops of the two skyscrapers will feature digital signs promoting the buildings' owner and major tenants. And on dozens of stories in between, LED lights would display noncommercial images such as flowers and vines that would fade in and out.

San Diego: San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina Pimps Its Facade Out for Comic-Con

San Diego is busy decorating the city to welcome Comic-Con on July 22. Today at the Gaslamp Trolley Station downtown, signs will be installed in Klingon, for you Trekkies out there. Meanwhile, the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina is getting itself ready for the party with a big ad with the word "Skyline" emblazoned on its facade.

It isn't as fun as the Hilton San Diego Bayfront's Scott Pilgrim advertecture, but it's certainly eye-catching. If you're curious about the mysterious one-word ad on the Marriott's 25-story tower, Comic-Con ticket-holders can visit the July 23 panel dedicated to Skyline, a film from Universal that will be released on November 12.
