Monterey County is known as one of California's posher coastal destinations, but as we told you in our Carmel Hotel Guide, it's perfect for a staycation and now the Monterey Travel Bureau is promising there is lots to do that doesn't break the bank.

Being the lushes we are, we're immediately drawn to wine tasting. Tastings are usually around $5 and if you really make your rounds to the area wineries, you'll really, um, get your money's worth. Also, please don't drink and drive.

There's also only 20 rooms at the hotel, ensuring a quiet private experience and the hotel's restaurant, Aubergine, has only 12 tables yet
