Best Green Hotels in the U.S. for Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! When we first did our Best Green Hotels report back in 2007, greening hotels was still sort of a new phenomenon. That was back when few hotels were moving past the little notes on the nightstand asking you to help conserve energy (and money) by only asking for new towels and sheets as needed.
But these days, hotels across America are seeking LEED certifications, introducing sustainable restaurants, in-room recycling programs and other environmentally-friendly initiatives. We've long been chronicling that sort of "green" news here, but in honor of Earth Day, we'd like to spotlight five U.S. hotels that really stand out as one shade greener than the rest.
