After the legalization of gay marriage, what comes next for New York? A gay hotel—specifically, The Out NYC—that's what. And that project, which we first learned about last fall, seems to be taking shape quite nicely.

An update sent today by The Out NYC trumpets not just the hotel's diversity (nightlife venue XL, 24/7 restaurant by Eatery, Nickel spa for men), but their overall commitment to becoming the biggest and best gay destination New York has ever seen. Seriously. Read below to see how Managing Partner Ian Reisner hopes to tickle the fancy of NYC's gay tourists—all seven million of them.

It's not opening until next fall but details about New York's new gay-friendly (or hetero-friendly, as the developers call it) are starting to emerge. We don't know yet if the rooms will have peekaboo bathrooms, but up on the roof? A peekaboo pool!

Michael Musto of The Village Voice recently had a walk-through of The Out NYC complex and talked a lot about the big nightclub going in here, the xl Dance Bar. The Out will also house a caf�, restaurant and shops but the part we're most excited about it is the first stateside outpost of Axel Hotels.

We keep hearing how Buenos Aires is the gay capital of South America, but we didn’t believe it until the Axel Hotel opened.

Axel properties are geared towards the gay community but make sure to call themselves “heterofriendly.” That philosophy especially makes sense in a city like Buenos Aires where the nightlife is extremely mixed, and you’d be hard pressed to find an exclusively gay or exclusively straight bar or club.
