New York: W Times Square Wants You to Recreate Iconic V-J Day Kiss

This Saturday, August 14, marks the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II and also the anniversary of the iconic kiss between a sailor and a nurse in the middle of Times Square which was capture by LIFE magazine photographer, Alfred Eisenstaedt.

The nurse in the photo, Edith Shain, passed away in June and the sailor has never been identified but their moment in time has lived on. Every five years the kiss is reenacted to pay homage to all veterans of warfare and this year W Hotels of New York are paying respects to the kiss in their own way--with a kissing contest.
