But Front Desk Manager Darren Sumner set the record straight, explaining that over the years, the hotel had received "many, many requests from guests," and simply wanted to "listen to their needs." So it seems we aren't the only ones who like to gripe about hotels still ruthlessly charging for the convenience of in-room WiFi.

When we finally wiped the glitter out of our eyes after staying at the Andaz 5th Avenue last week, we took a stroll around the neighborhood and were tickled to have stumbled upon Citi Pond at Bryant Park behind the New York Public Library.

The Pond is an ice rink alternative to the famous rink at Rockefeller Center and it's much more manageable. When we popped by the day before Thanksgiving, it seemed far less crowded than Rock Center. Plus, there were all sorts of cutesy pop-up shops on-site, making it a perfect stop to pick up holiday gifts. There's even a restaurant, Celsius, on site to grab some grub if the skating gets you hungry.
