It's blazing hot, you can wear less clothing and you can walk the streets all day long without having to get on the smelly subway trains (unless it's raining.)
But our other favorite time of the year to visit NYC is around the holidays. You can blame us for watching Miracle on 34th Street or Home Alone 2: Lost in New York too many times but the Christmas season in New York is just magical. And the best place to taste some of that cinematic holiday joy is at Rockefeller Center.
You've got

But apparently we underestimated the popularity of mechanical bull riding contests.
Monday night's round of riding was well attended by bull aficionados hoping to buck their way into the championship on January 3. Next Monday, another slate of cowboys will vie for their shot at the final. Rider Kay West was one of the top performers this week, says the New York Times:

She gave several breathtaking performances, staying aboard the bull at one point for about 30 seconds before being thrown like a rag doll into the pillowy folds of a large mat that cushioned her fall.

And, before

Well, it must not be a joke because the Rockefeller Center Hotel has gone and put up signage advertising the place. But don't rush over just yet--Johnny Utah's won't open until at least June 14. That's the scheduled date, but as always, we're skeptical.

And with good reason.
