We liked what we saw. There's a definite Sean MacPherson-Eric Goode vibe, with antiques everywhere and that Victorian flavor. But the effect is sort of country-lodge-in-the-big-city, which would probably be nice to come home to after a day in New York.<br> <p>The overall effect--given that the hotel has only a few rooms--is that of a bed and breakfast, though as our tour guide pointed out, "without the breakfast." That's not a stumbling block for us, as the property is in easy striking distance of plenty of restaurants. A call to the hotel reveals it's actually not in transition to some sort of condotel/developers wet dream. The Lafayette House was once a townhouse which then turned into a hotel, albeit with a different sort of MO.<br> <p>While maid service is part of the deal, hanging in the lobby and sitting around the pool isn't. According to our source, there are 14, not 15, rooms that are "Big by New York standards--I would call them suites." A couple rooms have kitchenettes while another few have living areas with a desk and sofa.
