<![CDATA[<img src="http://www.hotelchatter.com/files/admin/coopersquarelobbyvertical.jpg" class="top"> This morning, our friends over at <a href="http://curbed.com/archives/2008/11/04/cooper_square_hotel_is_the_new_face_of_the_bowery.php">Curbed</a> pointed us toward <a href="http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/index.php?fuseaction=wanappln.projectview&upload_id=10566">World Architecture News'</a> feature on the <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/hotel-reviews/The+Cooper+Square+Hotel/local/247">Cooper Square Hotel</a>, which spotlighted the first-ever photos of hotel's lobby and finally offered an explanation of the building's curious shape. (It was actually meant to evoke "a face starting small at the neck and widening upwards" and not so much a shark's fin or a sail). When we first glanced at these lobby shots, we thought they were kinda "meh" <a href="http://www.hotelchatter.com/story/2008/10/17/155932/89/hotels/Cooper_Square_Almost_Open_Looks_Just_Okay_">like the rooms</a>. After looking at them for longer than two seconds, however, it seems that we've arrived at a conclusion: we're loving the spectacular natural light -- and that's about it. Curbed has posted some snapshots of a long-awaited, $375-a-night Cooper Square Hotel guest room and well...don't get too excited. It's just a'ight.

We kinda hope the place would be mind-blowingly cool on the inside, given its crazy architecture. But it just looks safe to us. Even Curbed commenters think so. Some observations from the galleys:

· What a boring looking hotel.
· Eeeeewwww, damn its like 70's cheap.
· I've always wanted to sleep in a conference room circa 1971.

Hopefully, they will be tweaking the room design during the soft-opening. Otherwise, we're shacking up at the Thompson LES.

Thanks to Jebb who put this snapshot in the HotelChatter Flickr Pool, we now see that the Cooper Square Hotel has curtains. And they aren't fugly rainbows like the Standard NYC! The Cooper Square Hotel is still set to open sometime this fall.

New York: Gregory Peck Gets Serious About Cooper Square

This summer is shaping up to be the summer of hoteliers in magazines. The latest to join the group is Gregory Peck who gets all serious in the Sur la Terre magazine about his hotelier business (Sorry, no online link available!)

The piece is just a simple Q&A with Peck about how he got started in the hotel world (he used to work for Northstar Capital which funded several Ian Schrager hotels) and what his hotelier philosophy is about.

Oh yeah, and a little bit about Cooper Square. Nothing that we or Klaus Ortleib haven't already told you though.
