A tipster wrote into us with her account of The Delano during Art Basel:

My stay at the Delano in '08 was anything but posh. Two mornings in a row I woke up to no hot water, to make matter worse I was at Art Basel for work.
The hotel said a pipe burst and after I complained they took 50% off one night. So if you’re an art geek or just like crashing artist parties, it’s time to start thinking about where you’ll stay in Miami for this year’s show, which takes place December 3–6.

With artworks by over 2,000 artists on display, Art Basel events will be held all over town, from South Beach to the Design District, where many of the artist studios are located.
Miami Beach: The Roof Caves In at The Fontainebleau

All of the Fontainbleau outlets were open and fully operational the next day.
Over the weekend, a rough bunch of storms swept through Miami Beach and did some may-jah damage to The Fontainebleau Hotel, which opened only seven months ago after nearly $1 billion renovations were finally completed. Secret tunnels? Secret entrances maybe but aren't tunnels impossible in South Beach? Because otherwise you would be underwater, right? Yet there might be some secret tunnels in town. Apparently, they were once used to hide American Idol contestants. Late night in a hotel room. Maybe alone. Maybe with someone else. And the urge to stuff your face is getting harder and harder to resist. But room service seems so extravagant, especially when you are a drunken mess. Not to mention it could get extremely messy.
Never fear. The Delano Hotel in South Beach has come to the rescue. A new "mini-French" bistro, Plat Beau has opened in the hotel's Blue Door lounge. It's open from 11:30am but keeps going with a special late menu from 11 to 2pm during the week and until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturday.
