New York: What To Expect Inside The Chatwal New York

As regular HotelChatter readers know, we’ve been salivating for news—any scrap of detail we can get—on the upcoming opening of The Chatwal New York. We’ve seen glimpses of what’s to come on the hotel’s website, but now the property’s PR folks have some more bite-sized hints to feed us. Join us, if you will, for a teasing appetizer of what the new property will be serving come spring 2010 …

New York: Dream New York for $113 Through Quikbook's NYC Sale

Oooh. Quikbook launched another 72-hour hotel sale this morning (oh, we should mention they launched it first to their Twitter followers — so if you're not acclimated to the Twitterverse yet, perhaps this will help make a case) and we were mighty impressed with what we found for a couple of hotels in July.
First up: with this 72-hour sale, you'll get 25% off your rate (summer stays; late June through early September) if you book by Friday at 5:00 pm. Through that discount, we managed to find ourselves a room at the Dream Hotel in Midtown for $113 per night on July 5th. This is a hotel, mind you, that back

New York: NYT Doesn't Seem to Mind Stay.Hotel's Teensy Rooms

We’ve been a bit guarded about Vikram Chatwal’s Stay.Hotel in Manhattan ever since we heard the place was basically a Quality Inn with a souped-up lobby. So we were pretty intrigued by the mostly positive review of Stay in the New York Times this weekend.

Besides the overly punctuated moniker, the biggest gripe we’ve been hearing about Stay is the tiny rooms. NYT’s take? Staying “in a standard room means trading spacious accommodations for state-of-the-art technology.” They also call rooms “improbably small.” (They suggest upgrading to one of the eight rooms with two double beds or 15 with king beds and walk-in closets.)

New York: The Five Best Hotels for the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

It's that time of the year again--The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And the annual tradition on HotelChatter has been to round up the best hotels with views of the parade. We've come up with a new batch this year but just in case, you can peruse our previous selections here.
As we were writing this, we found that a lot of hotels in Manhattan along the parade route have availability and most were asking for reasonable prices (considering it's Manhattan during the Macys parade.) However, the rates may change as Thanksgiving gets closer so remember, the early bird totally gets the best part of the stuffing here.

New York: Snapshot :: Grand Opening Party at Stay.Hotel's Aspen Social Club

We came, we saw, we tasted the food and met some folks (at least one man -- who was not Vikram -- who claimed to be "basically the owner" of the hotel) and managed to snap this shot without looking too shady.
We came away with several impressions: the space is awesome. We have to admit that the Aspen theme looks a little bit Disney-world-forced, but hey, it's Times Square and Aspen is far away. The "forest" of birch trees was created by an illusion with mirrors, and that looks crazy cool.
A shot of the birch
