Chicago: Ajasteak at Chicago's New Dana Hotel Not Yet Open

Though the Dana Hotel and Spa ~~has been open for months~~ soft-opened a week ago, the hotel website says the restaurant, Ajasteak will open tomorrow. Good thing we called first! The opening night has now been pushed back to Monday, June 16.

Whenever it opens, expect more than a little bit of bombast. Here's the hotel's own description of the Asian-influenced steak house:

An organic mixture of textures, imagery and sound. Tasteful, harmonic and humble in its confidence ... Only provides the ideal setting for gathering and culinary gratification.

Who knows? When the place does open, maybe even complete sentences will be on the menu!

The <a href="http://danahotelandspa.com/">Dana Hotel and Spa</a> will start taking guests on Wednesday, May 28, with rooms starting at $350 a night. Floors 6-14 of the property will be open right after Memorial Day, with the rest of the rooms, the spa, two restaurants and a rooftop lounge opening later in the summer. The spa figures to be a centerpiece as it takes up the whole first floor along with a fitness center. (Check-in and the hotel lobby are on the second floor.) And we don't believe every single old building should be spared. Yet we feel especially wistful when a teardown involves an old hotel. In this instance, preservationists lost the battle to save the Dana Hotel, built in 1891 as the Erie Hotel. Before the five-and-a-half story Queen Anne-style building closed in 2005, it had been the longest continually operating hotel building in all Chicago. The River North neighborhood, once in decline, is now prime for development. After some last-ditch efforts to spare the building from the wrecking ball, the hotel was demolished this summer. Replacing the old Dana Hotel will
