New York: A Hotel Rooftop Bar Minus The Scene: Glass Bar At Hotel Indigo

We're talking about Glass Bar at the Hotel Indigo Chelsea.
When it opened, we predicted that it could be 'a more affordable and low-key alternative to the more scene-tastic rooftop bars in the city'—and that's just what we found when we dropped by around 6 p.m. on Saturday. In fact, when we first stepped off the elevator and approached the bar, we were the only drinkers in sight.
This was fine with us, but scenesters looking for a little companionship and conviviality may need

This is the home of Lady Liberty, after all! We've earned the freedom to procrastinate on booking hotels and we still expect to find a good deal when we get around to it.
With that independent spirit in mind, we set off into the wilds of the Internets to see which NYC hotels would still take the <strike>lazy</strike> last-minute bookers among us, and here's what we found ...

Our fave boutique chain is opening a second hotel in New York City that will be only 10 blocks or so from its first hotel, The Hotel Indigo Chelsea..

Indigo will build a property on 38th Street on Manhattan’s West Side, Janis Cannon, vice president of global brand management, said in an interview yesterday at Bloomberg’s Los Angeles office. The company aims to complete the 175-room hotel by the end of 2012, she said. The brand already has a venue on 28th Street in the city’s Chelsea

Actually, it may be the only joy of summer in the city, since it's so stinking hot and you feel like a loser if you don't score an invite to someone's beach house, country house, or Brooklyn backyard. But if you find yourself stuck in town this summer, at least you'll have plenty of options for outdoor drinking, courtesy of all the new hotels with rooftop bars and terraces.
Yes, we know it was just last week that we speculated that the rooftop bar was over, supplanted by hotel courtyards. But that doesn't mean we should ignore

Yes, we’ve heard this song before (you can catch up here and here), but the folks at Curbed wonder if this time they might actually mean it, since the proposed office tower that would replace the hotel has entered the public review process.
With the Westminster dog show right around the corner, our most pressing reaction to this news is: Where will all the doggies sleep if the Hotel Penn is pulled down? The hotel is the unofficial headquarters—and preferred toilet—for the show dogs and their people during Westminster—and a wonderful place to pooch-and-people watch
