In Riviera Maya, Maroma Resort and Spa Wins Praise

The NY Times headed to Riviera Maya in Mexico to "check in and check out" the Maroma Resort and Spa, a 65-room hotel and a four-bedroom villa.
Reviewer Geraldine Fabrikant informs us that five years ago, Maroma was just a boutique hotel with about 32 rooms. Then Orient-Express Hotels bought the place, added new rooms, two swimming pools and the Kinan Spa. When Hurricane Wilma walloped Mexico in 2005, Orient Express forked over $16 million to make repairs and finish the upgrades.
In short, no expense has been spared here which is always nice to know when traveling to Mexico, if you know what we mean.
MORE

You see, the resort is a member of the World Heritage Alliance so they have to do their bit to support the World Heritage Sian Ka'an Biosphere that's just an hour and a half away.

The Biosphere has been around for over 20 years and is the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean. It has unique wetlands and archeological sites as well as hundreds of bird species and over a hundred known kinds of mammals too. This makes it important,

Mexican Golf Getaway

Golfer Greg Norman has built a new golf course and this time it's along Mexico's Riviera Maya. As we mentioned a while back, the Riviera Maya was not as damaged as other parts of the country by Hurricane Wilma and is becoming a new fave among the tourists who are sick of Cancun.
The Fairmont Mayakoba will start taking reservations on April 1 as will Norman's latest work, El Camaleon.
But this is not your average wasteful luxury resort. Nope. This section of the Riviera Maya is eco-conscious and closed to vehicular traffic, leaving you to explore other kinds of transportation like bicycles and lanchas--thatch-roofed boats.
More on the golf resort post-click.
