If you're looking to get away for some sun, the San Diego Marriott La Jolla is trying to lure in summertime tourists with rates that start at $79 a night.

When you step into the lobby, it seems more upscale than other those at other Marriotts, which is fitting for the chi-chi neighborhood. But it looks like the rooms are the the same predictable Marriott hotel rooms. Our suspicions were confirmed on TripAdvisor.

Travelers come to La Jolla Cove Suites for an affordable hotel in tony La Jolla, but we come for the breakfast. The fifth-floor rooftop of the hotel is reserved for the most important meal of the day, and it's served alongside this gorgeous view of the ocean.

As you sip your guava juice and nibble on a bagel, you can look out over Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove, home to the cute blubbery seals. It's a perfect way to start the day. Best of all, the continental breakfast comes complimentary to all guests at the hotel.

Maybe someday, but right now, we think a little more finesse is in order to play with California's big guns. Nevertheless, we heart wine and want to stay in the loop of whats new (without having to commit to buying a whole bottle without a little R&D) and find the best way to sip, swirl and swallow your way through any wine region is by spending some time in its tasting rooms. Timing-wise, we're on the heels of grape harvest and there's no better time to witness the action of what goes into picking and processing grapes
