They are like the new Holiday Inns, except cleaner, "cooler", more expensive and full of ridiculous one-word names for the hotel services and amenities.<p>However, the <a href="http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1585"><b>W Maldives Retreat &amp; Spa</b></a> might be the exception to the W standard. The hotel recently opened on the island of Fesdu, in the North Ari Atoll with 78 private villas instead of hotel rooms and each comes with its own plunge pool.
