foursquareIDBed Bugs
We arrived at the hotel and the first thing I noticed was the overwhelming smell of smoke in the hall way. When we got into the room it had an overall dingy feel. The bed was hard as a rock and the linen did not smell fresh at all. After pulling back the first set of covers we saw that the second blanket had cigarette burns on it. Later on in the evening we decided to relax in the hot tub. It took over twenty minutes for the tub to fill up and the “hot water” was barely even warm. When we sat in the tub it felt rough and you could feel the deep ridges where it had been worn down. Needless to say it was in need of an update. We got out of the hot tub and dried ourselves off with small rough towels. It took 3 towels to come even close to being dry since they were so thin and did not absorb any of the water. We would have run out the door, but it was our honeymoon and the room was a gift and quite frankly we were broke and had nowhere else to stay for the night. We were exhausted from the long day so we did not have much trouble falling asleep. The next morning we woke for the continental breakfast. The breakfast consisted of coffee, cheap doughnuts and cereal, that’s all. We had better luck at the nearby gas station with food. After breakfast we decided to watch the football game. The TV had terrible color and kept flickering on and off. As if all this wasn’t bad enough… two hours after leaving my husband began to itch and we noticed several red bumps on his neck and shoulders. We went to the Dr. immediately to have them checked out and he informed us that he had undoubtedly been bitten by BED BUGS. We had not stayed any other place that weekend and when we went to our new apartment (where my husband had been staying the week before by himself) we did not find anything, nor have we received any more bites. Clearly the only place he could have gotten them was the dingy, run down, hotel we had spent our honeymoon in. After we spoke with the manager he called in Orkin, told us they were unable to find anything and because of that they could only offer us 50% of our money back or a complimentary stay. There is no way we would take the complimentary stay.. ….why would we want to stay in that awful place again? And as for the 50%... what about the Dr. fees and the fact that it put a huge damper on our first week of marriage! I would never recommend for anyone to stay there!
Get away from reality!
spazzoomtown, I agree with you. Great sense of humor! I have stayed in this hotel for many years and have nothing bad to say! The staff knows me by name, they greet me every time I check in with a smile on their face despite what tards they end up checking in on a day to day basis. I tell all of my friends and family to come to the Wildwood Inn. None of them has ever had an issue with the hotel. I always have so much fun staying at this hotel. Yeah, it's romantic. As a matter of fact, it's a great place to get away from my hectic job, get away from reality, annoying things in life. Sure, it might drown away the issues I deal with for less than 24 hours, but it's worth the money, it's worth the time, it's worth it all to get away in a fantasy. And better believe me, I take advantage of it! So if you're uptight, boring and looking for something a little less enchanting, I hear Knights Inn is cheap. You're in walking distance from Wendys, which is a plus. I will always regard the Wildwood as my favorite hotel in the Cincinnati area. I will come here as long as I need a nice hot tub, a pool, a fantasy world to get away from my boring yet stressful life. I suggest you do the same at least once.
a different experience in the tri state area!
Teresa1234, I think it is time for you to get over yourself. these people have put a lot of time and work into making this place what it is. I'm sorry that your high maintanence mentality has caused your average lifestyle to be distorted. I think it is time for you to either have the money to spend at a high dollar establishment outside Florence or understand that we are average middle class society. there is nothing wrong with this hotel other than maybe missing the mints on the pillow; but hell, if you where in the Jurassic period a mint would be a leaf! So, in a finishing; go graze a field!!!
The good and the bad.....
When you go by the reviews it may make you think twice about staying there. I read them. The good ones are really good, the bad ones are really bad. Really no way to be neutral. I called the hotel, SEVERAL times. Each time I spoke with someone (I tried to call every shift) I was pleasantly surprised at the level of customer service I encountered. THEY WERE NICE and HONEST! What more could I ask for? Why not call the hotel itself? Why not also rely on the people that see this hotel every single day? Yes, they were honest, candid and considerate! So I arranged a visit to view a few theme rooms and regular rooms. The staff was friendly! Yes, the hotel does need updating. Some halls are a bit dirty. This is true. The outer building not near the pool is a bit older and the rates are cheaper due to the distance from the pool. My opinion is that is where most of the people stay that want a cheap room-and most of the time the clientele you get in those rooms can be unsavory. The rooms were normal. They consisted of the basics. This hotel is not franchise. This is not a Hilton. You pay for an experience or something different. If you are expecting Hilton quality with many perks then this is not your hotel. You either love this place or you hate it, which is pretty well noticed from the reviews. The regular rooms were decent. Nothing fancy, fairly basic. The pool area, though it needs some touch ups, was really nice, despite what others say. I also enjoyed the theme rooms I viewed and actually booked one. I can't say anything bad about this hotel. What I can say is that YES it does need updating. I asked all the questions most of you are thinking in your head as you look to see if it's worth spending $300 for a theme room. It is. It is, call the people, do your research, visit if possible. They are caring people, they put a lot of heart into this hotel regardless of what minor imperfections it might have.
VERY VERY NASTY HOTEL
THIS PLACE WAS NOT FIT FOR A DOG TO SLEEP AT. IT WAS VERY, VERY DIRTY. CARPET IN HALLS WERE FILTHY. ICE MACHINES WERE NOT WORKING. TOWELS HAD HOLES IN THEM. POOL WATER WAS ICE COLD. I COULD GO ON AND ON. I LEFT AND WENT TO ANOTHER HOTEL WHERE I SAW ANOTHER GUEST THAT HAD ALSO LEFT THE WILWOOD INN. THE ROOM WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT CLEANED AT ALL. THERE WERE EVEN BURN HOLES IN OUR SHEETS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO THERE IT IS A DUMP OF A HOTEL.
Wonderful place to stay
We tried several theme rooms. Loved the bed--super comfortable. The room was clearly well furnished. I am in the design business so I was quite impressed with the detail and artistic aspects. The room was equipped with a modern mini-fridge. It also had a microwave and a gigantic shower/bathroom. The rooms are very nice, very classy and was very impressed with the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. They made us feel very welcome and was always more than willing to help us with anything we needed or had questions about. The cleanliness of the theme rooms were very impressive. However, when you see other areas of the hotel you realize they need updating and also needs deep cleaning. However, putting that aside, the money we paid was well worth the memories and enjoyment we got from staying at the Wildwood Inn. I adore the housekeeping staff, they were helpful in helping us find the perfect rooms for our anniversary. They spent an hour with us while we poked around trying to figure out which rooms we were going to choose. The desk staff also printed out directions and gave us information on nice places for dinner in the area. We had a great time and owe appreciation to the staff and owners of the hotel. We will be recommending this hotel to all of our friends and family. I have read the other reviews that are negative and honestly can't believe some of them. I will be a repeat customer because of the service I received at the Wildwood Inn. Regardless of some of the small issues the hotel may have, the customer service and the rooms we rented made it a definite choice for all future stays for holidays and special occasions. The owners have clearly put their souls into this hotel so that we could imagine life as we didn?t know it in Florence Kentucky. Lodging includes a continental cold breakfast, which could be amped but was satisfactory for us.
great staff
Me and my husband stayed in a safari hut and loved every second of it. It was quiet, the private spa was very relaxing, just a great get-away for both of us. I would recommend a tour with Stephie in advance. She answered all our questions and showed us different theme rooms, so we would get an idea of our options. Thanks again to the team, the front desk staff was very friendly and got us a great deal. We would definitely stay again and try one of the cave rooms ;-)
Fun place and romantic!
I enjoyed my stay at the Wildwood. It was snowy and cold, but inside the pool dome it was amazing! It was a mini retreat that I will be utilizing all winter! Our room was very nice. It may need updating but it had the amenities that we wanted and needed. The only suggestion I have is that they need a more broad WiFi and maybe hot breakfast. Otherwise it's a really great place to relax and get away during the week and on the weekends.
Tropical Paradise!
I stay in hotels often. I was visiting family in Cincinnati and was amazed at this hotel! Not only is the pool area amazing (and great tropical feel in the middle of freezing cold weather) but the room was cozy and romantic! I wasn't even expecting something romantic but figured what the heck, this is fun! My husband was tickled pink and I was too! We came back to this hotel on our way home and from now on I'll be coming here when we visit family! Would stay here again and highly recommend!
DON'T DO IT
My wife and I won a free night's stay from a local radio station. We knew of some of the problems this place has had in the past, but thought surely it was cleaned up by now. We stayed in the New Mexico Cave suite. It took real craftsman to design and build a room like this. It's a horrible shame they let it get so nasty. We probably should have just left, but decided to stick it out since we were already there. The carpet was recently vacuumed(poorly), but in desperate need of steam cleaned or replaced. Numerous stains and ciggarette burns, particularly around the bed and near the door. The comforter was stained(no need for black lights here!). We did check for critters around and on the bed, it was clean. The jacuzzi tub had a waterfall effect, which would have been cool if it worked right. It just kind of drizzled over the side and splashed on the wall and side of the tub. It became so annoying we ended up shutting off the jets and just sitting in the tub. The walls around the tub were full of what I originally thought was black highlights to emphasize the cave effect. Turned out to be either mildew or mold. We stayed clear of the tub after that. The bathroom tiles were dirty and the door had been punched and cracked. The towels were small and very stiff. If we had payed for this room, we would have definitely got a refund. We both felt ill the next day, and checked out at 6:30am. That's the earliest I have ever checked out of any hotel. If you decide to risk it, make sure you investgate everything as soon as you check in. Run the water in the tub and check it for foam and funny smells. Make sure the jets work. Check the bed and ask for extra pillows. Make sure everything works. If you wait more than 30 minutes, you're stuck. They remind you of that several times with signs. I will never go back even if it is free.
Live it at Wildwood!
"I surprised my wife of five years with a weekend at the Wildwood Inn. We stayed in a Safari Hut one night, the second night we stayed in the New York Statue of Liberty room and on the third and final night we stayed in the Victorian Floral room. She was amazed! I went to extra lengths to give her a romantic weekend. I have to say this is the neatest hotel that we've ever stayed in, it was well worth the price and the smile she had on her face. She's told all of her friends about the hotel and a couple got a room there our third night (the Aztec Jungle) and they were pleasantly surprised at how unique this hotel was. It was clean, the breakfast was a bit dinky but the pool area and attractions north of them made it much better. The desk staff and cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is really busy so it tells me that they are a good business if they are selling out during the weekends. We did get a chance to check out other rooms in the theme building while the maids were cleaning and we have a few choices of where we'll stay next. I'd like to try all of the theme suites but not sure how we'll ever have the time. So we'll just refer our friends and do that vicariously, haha. Overall the hotel was worth the price we paid. I would love to go during the week when the rates are lower but needless to say, when we have children we'll be bringing them to the family theme rooms and for the cool pool area."
Two words Bed creature
I recently stayed at the Wildwood Inn and Suites in Florence, Ky in February of 2008 and was eaten by BED CREATURES... UGH!!!! At first I thought my 1-1/2 year old daughter's nose was bleeding as I saw these RED spots on the bed, but when I looked closer these "RED spots" were moving... walking. The spots that were on the sheets were I guess where they were smashed and burst. I had never seen a bed creature before and after that I couldn't stop thinking about the old saying "sleep tight and don't let the bed creatures bite!!!! " I will admit that the management staff did apologize and upgraded the room which was nice, but it was not very clean upon check out and looking under the bed of the new upgraded room it had paper, candy wrappers, chip bags and all sorts of dust under the bed. I would not recommend this place as bed creatures can travel home with you in your luggage and clothes So if you so decide to stay please spray!!!
Creative, but not worth the high price.
My husband and I went to this Inn for our anniversary. We had seen the pictures online and were excited about the "Happy Days" suite. Upon arrival we were initially disappointed, but decided to stay and make the best of it. We enjoyed ourselves but it was not worth $300/night. We would not return to the Wildwood Inn. While the theme rooms are very creative and well decorated, I'm afraid that management has not attempted to keep them clean and updated. The pool was very relaxing and the hot tub soothing, but there was noticeable mildew around the pool/waterfall and I wasn't convinced of the upkeep. +The room was well decorated. +The pool's decor is tropical looking with real palm trees and a warm feel. The pool and hot tub were each heated to comfortable temperatures. -The hallway and our room smelled VERY strongly of cigarette smoke (online some rooms were marked "non smoking," so the others must be "smoking" by default). We both woke up in the night because of the smell of cigarette smoke in the blankets. -The room was mostly clean, although we found hair in the sink/bathroom and an unlit cigarette in the bed. -The towels were very thin, cheap and were not provided in enough quantity (2). -The advertised "4ft x 6ft Projection TV" was replaced with a smaller flat-screen. -The bed seemed smaller than advertised. It is situated in an old car, which is a very cool idea, but not practical for tall people. -The lights for the room were hard to find and not mapped out. -The fridge was an old coke machine fridge which wasn't clean inside and I'm not sure it reached acceptable temperatures for keeping food properly refrigerated. -The jets for the jacuzzi were VERY loud. -It took the shower about 5 minutes to run hot water. The water pressure was weak. -The air conditioner/heater was a small wall unit. -The advertised juke box did not work. -The pool was across the parking lot from our suite.
Will not return or recommend
Our first room was pretty gross I couldnt walk on the floor with my bare feet it felt icky.....The air conditioner didnt work........in order to get the fridge to work you had to screw in a fuse (who has screw in fuse in 2007)...and they say that there is a microwave but there isnt....OHHHHHH and my favorite part of the stay is when the guy in the orange shirt gave us our keys(the type you swipe) told us what door to go in so.....we go there key doesnt work......My husband goes to the front desk gets new key.........walk back over to the door still doesnt work.....now fustrated my hubby goes back over to the front desk this time the orange shirt guy trys doesnt work he trys his key it works trys and different door (both doors on first floor) finally he thinks about HEY THEY ARE ON THE SECOND FLOOR NOT FIRST FLOOR "DING FRIES READY" KEY WONT WORK ON WRONG FLOOR......IT WAS NOT WORTH $170.00 WILL NOT BE RETURNING.....
over priced&poor quality
Was referred to for our anniversary for the theme rooms and spas.I was very, highlyand most of all disgusted with the place.I paid the holiday price and it was not worth it at all!!! My husband and I had a much nicer room and cleaner at a regular hotel just a couple of weeks before and I will never go back to the wildwood inn.Save your money and go elsewhere.....It stunk, the spa was dirty, the walls were falling apart in some spots, the carpet was black in the walk path, there were no mirrors around the spa like the internet showed, the internet pictures made this place look to good to be true.(We had the champaigne room)What an anniversary!!!!Thanks Wildwood Inn!!!
Will not go back
the theme concept of the room was good, the quality sucked. The cabinets were made out of cheap wood and the counter tops like cheap floor tile. 4 towels were provided and they were thin. No kitchen items like real cups or silverware were provided. The tub in the bathroom had paint flaked off. The bedspread was cheap. The two person jacquzzi was not big enough to relax in and it had caulking that was rotting away. We didnt like the step up to the kitchen area (in the middle of the night). Only 2 pillows provided and not a comfortable bed. I will say it was clean. For the price you pay they could afford some more amenities. We went there for our anniversary and we were disappointed. Will not go back. Next time we will spend less money at a well known hotel that provides quality.
