Rude/Heartless Management - Stay at your own risk
I had planned to stay at the Napa Travelodge for a weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) with family coming in from Boston, but had to cancel on Thursday evening when their flight was cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions. The Napa Travelodge, unfortunately, has a 48 hour cancellation policy--and they Really mean it. No refunds (understandable), but they also will not allow you to apply cancellation fees to future stays at the hotel. I tried to reason with the hotel manager, who had his mind set that the policy is a policy--no exceptions. Ok, fine for my situation--it wasn't life and death. But then the hotel manager related the story of how he refused to make an exception for a traveler who had to cancel a reservation due to a death in the family. Ouch. A family member just died, they're grieving and preparing to go to a funeral of a loved one, and you wouldn't cut them some slack? Sounds like bad karma (and bad business) to me. Sure, a policy is a policy, but the world isn't black and white. Or maybe it is at the Napa Travelodge. Moral of the story? Reserve at your own risk--the management is heartlessly and ruthlessly after the almighty dollar at the Napa Travelodge. Either purchase travel insurance or be prepared to part with your money.
