Beautiful hotel, but the staff is not trustworthy!

Rating: 2

My husband and I had our wedding at the Diplomat, and though we loved the decor and the location, as well as the luxury, we had several expensive wedding gifts and envelopes with money in them turn up "missing" at the end of the night. When we contacted hotel management about the problem they told us that they were sure no one on their staff had taken anything - and then suggested that our friends or family may have stolen the items! We were very insulted, to say the least. They refused to let us see surveillance video of the hallways and ballroom, and did not compensate us at all. We had to move the wedding inside because of rain, which was (obviously) not their fault, but they did not tell the bridal party or the guests where to go, so by the time everything got worked out the wedding started half an hour late - meaning we had to pay our photographer, DJ, etc. extra for that time. This is a beautiful hotel to stay in, but I would not recommend it for a special event - and if you do stay here on vacation, lock up your valuables!

Outrageous prices, and bad attitude to boot

Rating: 4

If you like paying through the nose for glitz and rude staff, this is the place for you! Aside from the painfully tacky facade, the hotel itself isn't bad. Rooms are nice enough, well worth a couple of hundred a night--too bad they cost 3 or 4 times that. The lobby was pleasant, pool & beach passable (though there's not much beach left). But the prices! $7 bottles of water, $13 for SLOW internet service (it's another $5 for LAN-quality speed, and it's til next noon, not 24 hours worth), $85 steaks, $2.50 a pop for toll-free calls. The food wasn't bad; it just cost twice as much as it should. hat would all be bearable if you could get away from the place, but you're stuck in the middle of a high-rise desert. Unless you hire a cab, you can't get to anything but more tourist rip-offs. Then there's the staff. (1) Locked self out of my room while a housekeeping manager stood & watched. Would she let me back into the room? No. Was she at least apologetic about it? No. Was she genuinely rude? Yep! (2) When I mentioned this (pleasantly) at the front desk while getting another key (thank God I had my driver's license or I'd've been waiting for hotel security), I was told curtly "That's our policy." Not so much as a smile or a "Sorry you were inconvenienced." (3) I was making a presentation that ran past checkout. After four days of me and a lot of other convention-goers' paying through the nose, would the front desk staff cut me a two-hour brea? No. Was she apologetic about it? No. (4) I didn't understand my bill & neither did the desk clerk. He called in a manager; she didn't even bother to look at the bill. I was told "If it shows up on the bill, you charged it" in a tone that clearly indicated that I was an idiot wasting her precious time. In short: if you want to be ripped off and treated badly for a run-of-the-mill room, all in the middle of nowhere, you should visit this place! Otherwise, avoid it like the plague

What a rip off. Don't bother!

Rating: 4

My husband and I and another couple stayed last month for our anniversary. The customer service was awful. The rooms were EXTREMELY tiny for the price. The bars and restaurants inside the hotel were closed by 11:30. Nikki's marina was closed for repairs and THERE IS NOTHING TO DO within walking distance. We thought we would cram into our $570/night room and play cards or something. We then realized that there was not even a radio in the room. We asked if they had one they could bring up and was then told we couldnt have one because we might make too much noise.

Not 4 star at all

Rating: 2

This was the worst 4 star resort or hotel I have ever stayed at. The entire experience made me feel ripped off. I have stayed at many other hotels of the 4 star caliber and this one doesn't fit the bill. Price, service and environment were all factors.

WOW

Rating: 10

The most incredible hotel I've been to in any city. Over a quarter billion to build with 2 level pools with a see through floor. Incredible decor matched only by the views from the rooms. The beach was all of 4 feet wide at high tide - not impressive but no one went there. The only trouble is that it's built in a dumpy neighborhood. A shuttle will take you to a terrific golf course and relaxing spa.

EXCELLENT RESTAURANTS ( ALTHOUGH THE PRIME STEAKHOUSE IS SOMEWHAT PRICY), BUT A CHOICE OF OTHERS ON PREMICE. GOOD CLUB FLOOR WITH FULL BREAKFAST, COCKTAIL HOUR,LATER PETITE FOURS ETC. NEW POOL AND OUTDOOR FACILITIES. ON THE BEACH. WELL TRAINED ACCOMODATING STAFF. A PLEASURE
