The Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites

An interesting hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It looks like the outside is inside. But thankfully, the rooms are getting a much-needed renovation through the first quarter of 2010.

    • No free wifi. What is this? 2002?
    • Don't trust DoubleF
    • Hit the 5th floor red elevator to get to The Bona Vista on the 34th floor.
    • Check out the elevator to the Yellow tower, it was used for the filming of True Lies. When you're done, GET DOOOWN!
    • Check out the Bona Vista Revolving Cocktail Lounge on the 35th Floor. Great view of Dodger Stadium and the Hollywood sign.
    • This is a self-contained universe. Dentist? Doctor? Spa? LA finacial center? Subway sandwiches? Pub? Swanky restaurant? Night club? It's ALL here! Best Westin in SoCal, hands-down.
    • You almost need a map to figure out the best way to get out of this hotel.
    • The Bonaventure Brewing Co. On the 4th floor is a great pub AND has free WiFi...definitely go there!
    • Wi-fi Internet username and password: wboninternet
    • Construction is never ending & LOUD. Don't be afraid for your room to be moved or a few nights comp'd if you're affected.
    • Big hotel, small rooms...
    • The only parking if you drive and stay the hotel is Valet parking which is 35$ a night~!
    • Pay a little extra and get a Tower Suite. The traditional rooms are way too small.
    • Don't forget to leave a tip about this place for your #solpwr10 friends!Also...try to avoid jumping in the lobby fountains when it is late at night and you have been partying in the club downstairs...
    • The layout actually made alot of sence to me - rooms are fine - elevator rides offer a great view
    • Bonaventure Brewing Company has great selection of salads
    • Hotel is like a maze and the bedrooms are small and cramped.
    • Don't like small room with double beds
    • ride in the glass elevator to the rotating lounge for a drink and 360 degree view of the city
    • Ride the elevator to the 35th floor and look out at the city.
    • Stay in the green tower in the suites.
    • This place is stuck in the 90's! Avoid it! The hotels only redeeming quality is the roof top lounge which opens at 5 PM.
    • Def go there and visit the revolving restaurant at the top. Order a martini. then go to the 2nd floor and do the exercise circuit. you'll know what i mean when you see it.
    • Have a drink at the revolving cocktail lounge on top of the hotel at night. Enjoy the beautiful city lights and view of LA.

Bed Bugs in the Bonaventure Hotel - Room 2958

I am a regular Mon-Thurs business traveler to LA.  I've been staying in the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown LA since December 2007.  It's a great business hotel and it has many conveniences.  Unfortunately, I stayed two weeks ago in room 2958. (Yeah I have a good memory for numbers)  It's one of the smaller suites on the top floor of the hotel (aside from the restaurant and rotating bar levels which are 30 and 31).
Room 2958 had bed bugs.  I didn't see the bugs but I noticed the bites immediately.  Like I said, I am a very regular traveler and have heard about these things.  They were definitely bed bug bites, the right pattern, the right appearance, the right insanely itchy sensation I have read about.  I'd never actually gotten the bites before but I'm sure these were bed bug bites...also I noticed it the next morning after staying in the hotel and I did not have them the night before.  There's nowhere else they could have come from.

The manager at the front desk who is very friendly and helpful, he always helps me out since I basically live in the hotel, is named Patrick.  When I told Patrick that my room had bed bugs and that I was sure they were bed bugs he explained to me that it's very difficult to prove anything but that he would have someone inspect the room.  They didn't find anything..which isn't surprising since the bugs are really small and really hard to see and usually live in places that we can't see unless we rip out floorboard and mattress fluff.  He said they would fumigate the room anyway.  I asked him to call me and let me know when they had fumigated the room, and to keep me posted if they did find the bugs, etc, just for my own peace of mind.  (I mean I really do live in this hotel)  He still hasn't called me back and it's been about two weeks.
Obviously that sucks and I'm a little pissed at Patrick.  But I am more upset because right now I am in the Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown LA writing this review at 11:42pm in a room on the 22nd floor and I can't sleep because my skin is crawling thinking that the room may have bed bugs.  I'm not sure why I came back to the hotel because I've gotten so used to living here I guess I didn't think I wanted to leave.  I mean, Dec thru May were fine, no bed bugs to worry about. Just June...
Needless to say, I've decided to switch hotels for next week - or maybe even starting tomorrow night.  I can't sleep here anymore.  If you've never had bed bug bites, trust me, you don't want them and you should not stay in this hotel for at least a little while and you should especially not stay in suite 2958.
I feel bad for besmirching the hotel's name, but it's the truth and I thought I should warn other travelers.
Best,
A
