Little gem

Rating: 8

All the previous reviewers regarding this charming little gem on the Mag Mile should stop in and visit. Although the lobby has not changed, the rooms themselves have vastly improved. I have stayed here several times througout the year and have seen the difference. The rooms are brighter and feel refreshed. The staff at the front desk is great. They are always friendly no matter what they have to deal with. Which brings me to state: when you book a room for less than $100. Are you really expecting the Ritz? I give kudos to the Tremont for their efforts to keep their little known gem polished. Love the Fridge Burgers at Ditka's too.!

Worst hotel stay ever

Rating: 2

How is this place rated 9.1? Please take the other reviews people have written to heart before considering staying there. There are so many hotels in that area that I see no reason whatsoever to recommend staying at the Tremont. The rooms are small, which I can deal with given that its an old hotel, but the rooms and hallways had poor paintjobs, the place smelled musty, the bed was horribly uncomfortable. While some of the front desk staff were nice one gentleman in praticular was incredibly snooty to not just us but other guests that were at the front desk when we were. The only pro I can say for this place is the location, but again, that can be said for numerous other hotels in the area and their rooms didn't look like a hotel in Baghdad. Stay away at all costs

9.0 or 0.9?

Rating: 2

How this hotel is a 9.0 I will never know. The rooms are small and dated, the people at the front desk were rude, the shower in my room had tiles missing and looked disgusting. Doe that deserve a 9.0? The location was a plus and it was comfortable , but I would not reccomend it.

Tremont needs update

Rating: 4

The Tremont in the top 10 hotels in Chicago? Maybe in 1960, but these days, its rooms are too tiny, and the decor is dated and tired. If you are looking for a so called luxury hotel, you will be severely disappointed here. Right now the main reasons to stay here are cheap rates, proximity to Michigan Ave., and, of course, Da Coach's restrnt. It only costs a little more to go first class-I'd pay the little more.

dirty

Rating: 3

The lobby to the Tremont gives the illusion of a fancy and well kept hotel. The front desk staff was extremely professional and polite. This pleasant picture was shattered when I reached the 5th floor and my room. My first shock was at how extremely cramped it was. The ugly flowered drapery clashed with the plaid bedding. One of the curtains didn't open, and the other revealed a view of metal heating machinery. The chair had a stain on it, and the lighting was horrendous! It was so dim I could hardly see across the room. The television stopped working. The mini bar was completely empty, even though the hotel literature boasted about the selection. Finally, the bathroom creeped me out enough that I did not want to be barefoot if at all possible. Great location and friendly staff, but too scary and rundown of a room to feel comfortable.

Filthy!

Rating: 2

Our room was filthy -- stained and dirty drapes and bedcovers. Walls were dirty, carpet was stained and worn and wallpaper was peeling. The staff was polite and efficient at check-in, but we couldn't get any toilet paper. We only had 1/3 roll toilet paper and 6 sheets of Kleenex when we arrived. Very loud, smelly and terrible view. The only thing going for this hotel is its location. I would never stay there again.

Dump.

Rating: 1

this place was a dump. the room was tiny and dirty and unkept. when i came out of the elevator i was hit with the smell of cigarette smoke. when i arrived in the room it smelled of sewage. after making a big deal out of having a room with a view, they transfered my room to one with a view of the roof next door and the big metal heating system. the only staff member that wasn't rude to us was the valet parking attendant.

Old style MUST meet new....

Rating: 6

I went on a trip with my family for the first time to chicago and was able to get a good deal with The Tremont. With ratings saying they had won 'The Most Romantic Hotel of 2002', I thought we were definitely getting our money's worth. Though the stay wasn't long, the accomodations were less than spectacular. The decor in the room was very gaudy and loud, aside from the fact that the wall paper was falling down! We almost slept on the floor the matress was so hard and the bathroom was as cold as ice. Though the view to Michigan Ave. was nice, this hotel is in dire need of rennovations.

Yippy for the hotel

Rating: 10

I would recomend this hotel to anyone. It had great service and are trip was very enjoyable. I am going to go back to that hotel the next time I visit Chicago. My family always is asking me when we are going to go back to that hotel. I want to tell them tomarrow but I know we cant go everyday. Something as little as a hotel can make a trip from ok to spectacular. I would like to see some more fashion in this hotel. It is very old like and modern style for the 40's. I hate to walk into a hotel and see the floral print comfoters. I love that some hotels are getting away from this though. I want to see such a lovely hotel break away from this barrier too. other wise the hotel was flabergating and I am going to visit it again.

moved over

Rating: 6

The Tremont is a very quaint hotel. Unfortunatly I was looking to impress.Upon arrival they moved us over to the building next door. The room was the size of my dining room and that was including a kitchen. The bed wasn't even a queen and the t.v. recieved only 6 channels, and 2 of those didn't come in. I'm sure some one out there likes charming and old, but for the money, we should have stayed at the Sofital.

wonderful hotel!

Rating: 10

We greatly enjoyed our stay over the labor day holiday! The staff was most accomodating with our requests, the rooms are charming and the location wonderful. We took advantage of a new package the hotel is offering for the Field Museum's Chocolate exhibit. Dessert at Ditka's restaurant was yummy and we even met "Da Coach!"

home away from home

Rating: 9

We recently stayed at the Tremont and LOVED it! The hotel has friendly and accomodating staff; charming quaint rooms; fabulous location -- what more could a visitor to Chicago want? We felt more like we were staying in private home than in a hotel! we will stay here on every visit to Chicago.

The Tremont Experience

Rating: 10

Great location--there's so much to do around there!. I've been in the Chicago area for some time now, but never really been in the Tremont before. Boy, am I glad I finally did! You can totally get the Chicago downtown experience, but away from the touristy Michigan Avenue. Quaint decor. Courteous and attentive service. Everyone was very nice, friendly and accomodating. I always have a ton of questions, and each of the staff I talked with answered all of them patiently and competently. My boyfriend and I stayed there a couple months ago when he was in town. All I can say is wonderful ambiance ;D. We had an extraordinarily good time there; we're engaged now! I will remember this hotel fondly.
