Horrible guest services
I was in San Francisco for the weekend and wanted to know where there was good dining after 1 AM. The gentleman working the front desk was not helpful at all. He first starts off with oh I'm really busy so I can't help you. My persistence made him attempt it and his solution was to bring a yellow page so that I could look up restaurants myself. I then just asked for a suggestion and he said that I would know as much as he would. Luckily the cab driver was more helpful then the guest services where I was staying!
A good value in a fantastic location.
I travel for business constantly. Was looking for an inexpensive place to stay near Market and happened upon the Pickwick. It's an older hotel in a very convenient location (1 block from Powell St. BART station and cable car turnaround). Plenty of shopping/sights within a very close walking distance. I had a $99/night queen room facing 5th St. Room, bedding and bath were all very clean. Room was not huge but not cramped either. There's paint peeling in a couple spots but all in all, the room was perfectly fine for $99. The front desk, bellhop (Leo) and cafe staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Went down to the buffet and the food was good...equivalent to any Embassy Suites I've stayed in. All in all, a pleasant, inexpensive hotel in a great location with few surprises.
