The Jane Hotel

From the hotel:

In 1912, it sheltered survivors of the Titanic. It became a sailors’ haven in the 1920s. And in recent years, the storied 1907 waterfront building became a quirky “residential hotel.”

Now, following a personal restoration by hospitality veterans Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode, 113 Jane St. in Manhattan’s Far West Village is about to get a new life as The Jane-a unique 200-room micro hotel for young travelers with more dash than cash.

The hotel is set to open in stages throughout the Fall of 2008.

The Jane Hotel is to be avoided

Rating: 2

The rooms were tiny. I mean tiny. I knew that going in, and took a leap of faith that the rooms would be on par with the Ace Hotel chain, just smaller. Here's my takeaway from The Jane: - The bathroom for the floor was closed, so I was directed to the bathroom one floor down. - The staff was more interested in the line of hipsters going into the bar. Every night was a private party, so I didn't go into the bar and cannot speak to it. - It was under construction. Drywall was being hung 10 feet from my room. - You rely on an absent elevator operator to get you to your floor. Save up a few more bucks and go to a nicer hotel. Even at $99/nt, this was not a good value.

My closet has more room and Iraq is less dangerous. Good luck to this dump.

How unfortunate for what is supposed to be a boutique hotel to be so deceptive. In the middle of a construction zone, guests and SRO tenants have to walk through dangerous hallways, get scalded by extremely hot water, and deal with an extremely rude staff. Is this a new hotel concept? Maybe it should be used at the Maritime and Bowery as well. Good luck to this team of nincompoops (spelling?).

Unless you start looking at hostels, you won't find a cheaper hotel in the city. An interesting building historically with a great off-broa...

    • Try running alongside Hudson towards Statue of Liberty
    • Don't smoke on the stairs!
    • Take your key off the power thing and blast the AC, the rooms get stuffy in any weather
    • The urinals are bigger than the rooms.
    • Get an Old Fashioned. Better yet: Meet up with a girl your roommates girlfriend told you you'd love on your first trip to NYC and let her buy you two only to underestimate the drink's strength and the
    • I'm pretty sure this is a place made for vapid people to feel interesting.
    • Take your room key off the ring & you can leave your power slug in the socket while away for easy charging of gear, etc.
    • Es como dormir en un camarote. Bueno, bonito y barato en el West Village. Tiene chorro de onda.
    • If you check in for the first time at night, make sure you have a flashlight app on your phone. You'll need it to find the power to your cabin.

    • Go to Cafe Gitane for strong coffee and towers of couscous; slip into the ballroom for people-watching and dancing.
    • Nice place and really-fuckin-awesome bar with excellent interiors, good cocktails and great drunk people
    • Beautiful historic hotel with friendly, helpful staff and clean rooms. Cafe Gitane has an authentic French feel, but is overpriced. Absolutely love this place!
    • Now that you've made it past the door, grab a drink with some friends in the intimate, trendy ballroom
    • Uhm, if you want to know what it's like to sleep on the Titanic, this is the place. Also, did you know that survivors of the Titanic disaster actually stayed in this building right after?
    • Very cool hotel. Awesome feel. Great place to stay in a beautiful part of the city.

    • Excellent place to stay when in NYC. Recommend to anyone travelling on a budget. Cool motif & design. Awesome history too.
    • I love their line "when you have more dash then cash"
    • This hotel redefined all future hotels. Their showers are nice and clean, although communal.
    • Cosy room, nice people. There's lovely cafe named gitane.
    • When you walk in head all the way to the right to get to the hidden cocktail bar. Grabs drink with a friend or two in the intimate setting. 60 person capacity space.
    • Only go to the bar; do not stay at the hotel. The staff is rude and rooms in the winter are without heat.
    • Absolutely phenomenal interiors hearkening to the Ottoman Empire and Northern Africa. Super, laid-back service. Glad I got in on my one night out on the town for the month!
    • Check out the Jane Hotel bar, early in the eve, before it's full of creeps.
