Some celebs stay here. It's a nice spot and could even be romantic if you're into that. The restaurant has decent breakfasts, too. Walking distance to lots of stuff.

    • Top notch collection of people to connect with.
    • Request an UberPedicab to take you over to the Convention Center.
    • The Driskill Hotel is lit up lovely at night. Consider shooting during dusk, and use a tripod to shoot at slower shutter speeds to avoid camera shake and blurry pictures.
    • pro tip: if you need to store jackets/laptops for a few hours or so, ask the concierge outside. there's a storage area in back. be nice and tip well!

    • The French toast at 1886 is to die for.
    • The Driskell Bar makes me swoon (when it's not SXSW mobbed). Great live music. Revolver light fixtures. Killer bartenders. (And don't miss the cupcakes sneakily for sale at the bar)

    • I find the staff here helpful and polite - without exception.
    • Built in 1876 by a cattle baron and has hosted a history of political parties and inaugurations.In the 1970s this hotel was a hangout for musician, humorist, and journalist Richard "Kinky" Friedman.
    • driskill during sxsw is a quiet civilized stop to meet friends, have a drink, hold a work conf call, charge ur phone & go to the bathroom.
    • the little seats near the elevators next to the bar is a nice place to sneak away from the crowds. "elevator alley", i call it.

    • you must try the breakfast burrito at the Driskill hotel, it is kick @ss. you can skip lunch if you can eat the entire thing.
