Lovely place to stay!

My experience at The Carlton was wonderful. It is a fabulously renovated old hotel. I had to wind around corners and down hallways to get to my room. The staff was exceptional - very attentive and quick to meet and even anticipate my needs. The room was large and clean and the bed was comfortable. It was not overly luxurious, but it was very, very nice. It was also fairly quiet although there was some street noise - I was only on the 6th floor - which is expected in the city. The room service food is excellent and very fresh and the service prompt and friendly. The entire staff from the doormen that greet you to the bell staff and housekeeping staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Every day the doormen helped me decide on my itinerary, got me a taxi and met me at the door on my return asking how my day was. It was delightful, especially since I was traveling alone. The only disappointment I experienced was that someone was smoking (against the no-smoking rules) in the hotel and the smell of the smoke came into my room through the air vent. This happened on the last morning I was there - just as I was packing to leave. It did not happen prior to that. Unfortunately, that happens at the older hotels and there is not much they can do to solve the problem other than fine the person that is doing the smoking - if they can locate them. I would have been able to change rooms had I been staying another night. I will return to the Carlton. It was much more affordable than some of the super luxury hotels (many of which I have stayed at over the years) and the service was just as good!

Being huge fans of Town, we had to do Country. Bravo! Awesome meal, great service. Heres the kicker. Beautiful hotel! We had friends stay from out of town. They had the best time. Their room was top notch. Staff was friendly.I couldn't get over it. Having frequented many NY hotels, this is it.

Their remodel is complete at last and well worth the wait. The lobby is beautiful, the service is outstanding and their restaurant Country is as good as any I've found in the city. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back. A hidden gem on Madison Avenue that won't stay hidden for long!

great value, for now

This hotel offers large and luxurious rooms (quality linens, mahogany armoires, marble bathroom fixtures) for reasonable rates. Service is not primo, but for those prices... Catch it now, for once the renovations are complete the rates are bound to go through the roof.

quietly unique

Treating our son and daughter and their spouses to a Thanksgiving weekend in New York, we chose the Carlton because of the $99.00 per room rate. The Hotel is under construction but you never new it. The rooms were elegant and quite. They also are across the street from an apartment building that a couple times giving us views of some people undressed which we would have preferred not seeing! (just closed the blinds). One front desk staff were very nice and helpful, another group however left a lot to be desired (rather rude). We stayed 3 nights and did enjoy ourselves. This will be a great place to stay when they are finished with the renovations
