Savor the passion of French cuisine at La Fougasse, located in Sofitel Minneapolis at the intersection of Highway 100 and Interstate 494. La Fougasse specializes in Mediterranean dishes from Provence in an atmosphere of brightly colored tiles, fireplaces and an open demonstration kitchen. It's a culinary experience sure to transport you to the heart of France. La Fougasse: Cuisine with the taste of perfection.

I tried to call for a Friday night reservation and found out that Sunday brunch was the only available dining for the public. Otherwise, it was private dining only.

Minneapolis Gem, One of the top 10 to 15 restaurants here

Rating: 10

I have eaten here 3 times and everytime was wonderful. The service is almost as good as the top restaurants in town. The food is comparable to the top restaurants as well. I have always had one of the fish entrees and they always cook it perfect for the particular type of fish. The wine by the glass selection is good, some nice French and Cali selections. The kitchen is open to the restaurant as are several fireplaces which make the atmosphere fantastic. Romantic diner to a nice business meal. I brought some of my foodie friends from Singapore here for a business meeting and they love it so much they went back the next night. These guys have been to all the top ones here, 112, 20/21, la belle vie, etc. and I believe they talked about this restaurant more afterwords they any others. Will be going back a few times every year. As a foodie I was surprised more people don't talk about this restaurant. It is in my top 15.

Nice atmosphere- small menu

Rating: 6

Went for a birthday a few months ago. It's a great looking place inside and the staff is great. However, the menu selection is pretty small and didn't find any exciting items I wanted to try. They also don't have a drinks menu or a signature drink but will make most things you request. The fruit cake is awesome!

Just ok food!

Rating: 2

We went in for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere (cozy fireplace) and staff were nice, There were hardly a few people dining here at the time we visited (8 pm on a weekday). They brought us a complimentary salad and dessert. But the food was pretty ordinary and well below our expectations. We eat out a lot and have done so at lots of nice places in the Twin Cities area, but this was pretty disappointing. The frog legs, the grilled fish or the dessert (chocolate cake or something) were just about ok. There are several better places than this for the same money. Don't go there if you have great food in mind. Wouldn't visit again for sure!

Best paella ever

Rating: 10

I was suprised to see that many comments considering this restaurant as French. My fiance and I decided to go there for our anniversary, and we had a wonderful time. We had the chance to talk to chef Serge who told us that It is a medditerranean restaurant with influences from all over. Yes South of France, but also spain (The paella is fantastic and the presentation will make you fall out of your chair), Italy and this month they are featuring a greek special. If you have a chance ask for Serge or the restaurant manager they are both french and they will guide you to the menu and wine pairing. The chef is funny and will defenitly entertain a part of your meal. Greg was our waiter and was very accomodating and knowledgeable. There is no dressing code and the atmosphere is very cosy. Price are reasonnable, it will depend on the wine you're choosing. Overall a great experience.

for the unwary

Rating: 2

If ever there was a tacky venue created for the untraveled parvenu, this is it. Blending traditional French harlequin with contemporary is not a good recipe for atmosphere. Mediocre food & a vodka bar... this does not feel like France. We ran the gamut this month entertaining out of state family & friends. There have been some gems and some bloopers. You know what this one is. All in a dining room filled with uptight people who secretly feel very uncomfortable trying to dress well. (Arrivistes) You get the distinct impression the whole joint is screaming for social approval. It doesn't have mine.

Best place to feel snotty... :(

Rating: 6

While the food was good, and the server knowledgeable, I couldn?t shake the feeling that the rest of the patrons were so obsessed with themselves, they couldn?t relax & enjoy. Not only that, but they were LOUD - I wanted to yell across the restaurant, "Lady, I'm trying to eat here - please stop talking about your friends botched plastic surgery! " This place serves good food, but if you are looking for an intimate meal with your friends or partner, this is not it ? my wife and I were actually relieved to get out of there!

Wonderful Valentine's Day

Rating: 8

We picked the V-Day menu and it was wonderful. The food was fantastic. I enjoyed the salad because of the complex flavors of the dressing and the cheese. The Valentine?s Day desert was spectacular; two marshmallow-like hearts drizzled with chocolate served with raspberries and strawberries. I'm drooling just thinking about it. The fillet was quite good, cooked to the perfect medium rare. The service was excellent. Waitress and host were very helpful and very polite. I will go again for sure, this time perhaps to try their Italian menu.

Great brunch

Rating: 10

I love brunch. To me it is the best meal ever created. So when I can get my butt up out of bed early enough to get it I love to go to this place. The food is excellent. The best time to go is in Spring or Summer when you can sit outside and leisurely sip on your sangria between trips to the buffet. Service was outstanding, probably the best I've had at a buffet/bruch ever.

great ambience, service and food

I went to La Fougasse restaurant with my husband and 3 year old son. Usually I am very picky about the place I eat at.... La Fougasse lived up to its glamour of being a wonderful restaurant at Hotel Sofitel. My 3 yr old son, Jim (husband) and I had a wonderful dining experience. The Whole Fish on their menu was the best I ever experience. Service was efficient, and non-intrusive. Jim and I loved it and surely will go back often. Thanks, Natasha

Poor Experience at Valentine's Day

Rating: 2

Since my last visit at La Fougasse, the quality of service and of food have deteriorated considerably. While the last visit at Valentine's Day was memorable, I had ventured to return to La Fougasse in good faith. I had been thoroughly disappointed as the lamb entree and dessert were both bland and the staff inattentive to the point of forgetting an order and fail to refill the water glasses. I expect more when I pay for their price. For special occasions or any other occasions, I will choose to dine at the many other wonderful restaurants in the Twin Cities as it is a sure way to lose client interest and business when they are this inconsistent.

Good Food... Good Location... Good Decor

Rating: 8

When you walk in you'll love it. It's bright and has a modern feel. I was bringing my boyfirend here as a surprise since it was listed as being a romantic place to go. I even asked for the Terrace, since it was suggested. I liked it, he didn't cause the terrace is baically right off the parking lot. There was no view. Next time we'll probably sit inside. The presentation of the food was great and it tasted great!!! One thing though our server sucked!!!! Big time. Her name was TG. If you get her I would ask the host for a different server. She made it to our table 3 times. Once to say Hello can I get you a drink. Second time to bring the bottle of wine and take our order. The third time was to deliver the food. We sat and waited for 15 minutes after eating and finally went in to ask the hostess to bring us the bill. I think I would be saying I loved the place if we had better service. The girl wasn't even busy we saw her inside standing around the majority of the time. Other then that I liked it!! You should go, its good and unique!!!!!

My husband and I went there for our anniversary. It was an amazing experience. We sat by the fire side...warm and romantic....Sunil was nice enough to serve some champagne on the house and our server (I think her name was Amanda) was friendly, helpful and professional! Overall, a great experience!!

Unremarkable.

Rating: 4

After reading the other reviews, I was excited to be dining here. However, when we walked in at 7/730 on a Saturday night, the dining room was empty but for about two other tables. While the decor and food and server was nice, there was nothing notable about our dining experience to make me want to return or recommend this spot to others. Maybe it was an off night ...

Excellent place for groups and individuals

Rating: 10

I wrote a review about La Fougasse last year. Last time I went with my group and this time I went alone. The restaurant has only improved. I was even offered a newspaper since I was alone. Where will you find attention to detail like this? MUST GO! I have visited La Fougasse about seven times since my previous review and it sure is a shining star. Cheers, Jay

Wonderful experience

Rating: 10

The Restaurant General Manager (Sunil) offered us a table for 4 next to the fireplace. It was so thoughtful of him to do this as it was our 12th wedding anniversary. This set the mood for the rest of the evening. The food was unique, well presented and tasty. The waiter (Martin) couldn't have been more generous and kind. He anticipated our needs and fulfilled them with a smile! I will go back for the rest of our lives.

Electrifying Music during Buffet

Rating: 10

It was a fantastic start for a Sunday morning. The desserts were the highlight. The buffet was well laid out and I was welcomed with a warm smile. The flower filled patio with cobalt blue glasses was a sight I cannot forget. The restaurant had well set tables with comfortable tables and chairs. I was greeted within 60 seconds and I was stunned at their attention to detail. The server who identified himself as Chris was well groomed, wore clean uniform and his speech was full of knowledge and confidence. He is a Gulf War veteran who takes pride as a server. The food on the buffet along with homemade Sangria and live flamenco entertainment was a feast I won't soon forget. I cannot wait to visit them again with family and friends. I think it is the best brunch buffet you can experience in Minneapolis/St.Paul.

I can't tell you about the food...

Rating: 6

we didn't get that far. A friend made a reservation for 4 for 2/12. She verified that they would take the Entertainment book and that they had fish that wasn't shellfish. She also asked for a table far from the bar. When we got there, the table was right next to the bar (which they grudgingly switched). Then they said, "Here's tonight's special Valentine's menu. It is $125/couple." No regular menu. Somehow, they had forgotten to mention this on the phone. We, like many others that evening, gave up and left because that wasn't what we had in mind. I might give them one more chance to see if the food is better than the service.

anniversary dinner

Rating: 10

I and my wife had dinner for our anniversary. The waitress was very good in explaining the choices and our service was also very good. My wife was very pleased with her yellowfish tuna selction and we both enjoyed the salad with Calamari and greens. The dessert was very good. I should have ordered something different from the Loup de Mer which I had, which was like swordfish and chewy. If I come again, I would try the scallops and shrimp combination.

Great place to impress

Rating: 10

We were a little concerned about eating at a hotel restaurant until we tried it. Beautiful French decor and colors, polite and professional servers, simple menu, very elegant. Now in the summer, they have some great desserts. Recommend the tasting trees. Not usually crowded so walk-ins are always possible. We usually end up here at least once a month for a proper french style gourmet dinner. This is definitely where I would take my snobby in-laws if I don't want to go downtown and pay an arm and a leg. Other French rest. in the Twin Cities should follow their example.

Be careful if they ask about water

Rating: 5

I asked for some water and the wait person asked me if I'd like a bottle for the table. I thought they meant a carafe for everyone, but was brought a bottle of Evian water and charged $9 for it. Otherwise, I had enjoyed the meal. I probably deserved it, but I didn't like feeling like they'd put one over on me when the bill came.
