The San Remo Hotel is not for everyone...and for that I'll say,
First off, the San Remo Hotel is not for everyone. As a matter of fact, one might say that it's for a select few. And for that I'll say, "Thank you!" The hotel itself is an older, renovated SRO (single room occupancy) that has "old world charm" beyond anything you'll find in its price range (actually, it was the room rate that captured our attention). The staff people were friendly and quite accommodating. The location is great (two blocks from the Embarcadero and just around the corner from the Powell?Mason Line). There?s even a ?Trader Joe?s? nearby! Having been a SRO, the rooms might or might not have a sink and none have bathrooms. For that, you?ll need to walk a few steps down the hallway. Which beings me to my point, the San Remo Hotel is not for everyone (particularly for parents of crying babies!!). But for us, it?s become our hotel of choice. P.S. If you do choose to stay here, consider visiting "Caffe Capriccio" for breakfast and/or lunch. I recommend it!

European home in the city
I'm sure many folks shy away from the San Remo because of the shared bathroom facilities. After having stayed at the San Remo, I would recommend it highly to anyone. It's wonderfully located, inexpensive for San Francisco, staff is friendly (supplied us extra pillows and good recommendations for transport around town) and quintessential European atmosphere. It's comfy, relaxing, and a welcome respite from your typical Marriott or Holiday inn room. No TV makes you WANT to be out on the streets enjoying yourself while you can.
