Don't count on getting what you asked for

Rating: 2

I spent NYE at this hotel and had the worst experience ever. Didn't get the room we had reserved and weren't offered anything different when we complained. Staff seemed against any harmless NYE fun. I have had far better experiences in most every other hotel in Portland. My advice is never stay here. You would be better off at the Econo Lodge down the street.

A GEM !

Rating: 10

This hotel is a GEM - the service great staff helpful and accomodating. The rooms -while small - give big payback where it counts - beds, bedding, thoughtful layout and conveniences (like extra outlets I can find thanks!). The wireless service is easy to use and response is solid. The HD tv with HD service was a nice surprise. I will look forward to my next stay.

This hotel is a gem! The rooms are well apointed, and the staff is very friendly. They also have a great courtyard that has cozy fire-pits. I hear they are building an ajoining restaurant. Grab a glass of wine and have a seat. We liked it soo much, we stayed an extra day!

Classy rooms, comfy bed, great city views, convenient downtown location, personalized service-all this for less than $150 a night!

Rating: 10

My husband and I live just 15 miles from downtown Portland. It would seam to make sense to just drive to Portland to enjoy it for the day. Rather than driving back and forth, we decided to spend a long weekend staying in a hotel enjoying our sister city which is just across the Columbia River. There is so much to enjoy in downtown Portland. We took in the Celine Dion concert Thursday evening, Oregon Ballet Company's 'Swan Lake' Friday evening, traditional afternoon tea at the Heathman Saturday, shopping at specialty shops and boutiques, touring the new 'Nines' boutique hotel and restaurant and meals at a number of great restaurants and cafes that have so much character! I know...you are waiting to hear my review of the hotel Modera...I am getting to that! The above information directly relates though. We were able to do these activities without driving through traffic because of the hotel's great location! We traversed either by walking [this is mostly what we did] or catching the street car or Max Light-rail. Yes, we drove our car but parked it in a garage one block away from Hotel Modera till we left for home Sunday morning for $12 for a 24 hr period. Modera does provide valet secure parking but it is at the usual hotel fee of $27 a night. Most downtown hotels cost over $200 per night. With our AAA discount we were charged only $129! The hotel was completely remodeled 4 months ago. Comfortable quality beds to sleep on with fluffy down/feather pillows and comforter and a great fur spread that added to the romance of the modern rooms. The bath counters, floors and showers are lined with beautiful marble and granite. Modern art decorates the walls. Everything is explicitly clean! It offers good views of the city and the west hills and has a lovely garden area where you and your honey can enjoy a glass of wine at the outdoor gas fire pits in the evenings. The hotel is calm and quiet - a great place to rest! We know you will enjoy your stay at Modera as we did.

BEWARE the Management at Hotel Modera

Rating: 2

BEWARE: Before booking a room at Hotel Modera, keep in mind that they may falsely accuse you of breaking the law on their premises, without any proof, and without you even being their. They also may put a charge on your bill based upon these false accusations. And finally, they will treat you like a common criminal while you discuss the accusations and check out of their hotel. While being away from the hotel, all day on Sunday, the Management came to "believe" that my wife and I were smoking in our room. Upon returning to the hotel, we had a voicemail accusing us of such actions and threatening a $250 charge to our room. I quickly called the front desk and was assured that they were not going to charge us based upon this false accusation. When we went to check out, they chared us the $250 fee. We then had a heated discussion with management where they agreed to remove the charge but would not apologize for harassing us and even acted like they were doing us a favor. I have never been so angry with the management at a customer service based business! The memories of our nice trip are now stained with anger and frustration from Hotel Modera. Some important notes: 1. here was another hotel room door right next to ours (where the smell could have been coming from) 2. We were out all day and even offered to show receipts proving that we were not in the hotel during the day. They declined 3. We asked to go up to the room immediately with the staff for them. They declined 4. They could have simply entered the room (it is their property) when they thought they smelled something rather than falsely accusing us 5. They could have called my cell phone to learn that we were not on the premises 6. We had another couple visiting Portland with us. They could not believe the accusations and felt that we should have made a bigger fuss than we did Do you think it's worth the risk to stay at Hotel Modera? I wouldn't recommend taking the risk!

Red Roof Inn has better total quality.

Room basic but front lobby eligent. I stayed 3 nights the room fan was noisy and the AC did not work tried lowering the room temp until in desperation had it set to 65F. Room stayed hot and humid and very hot to sleep. At check out they asked how my stay was. I mentioned the AC & they then asked what temp I set it for and smirked when I said 65F. I did not mention to them the lack of a pool or that a driking glass that I got from a local pub was taken during cleaning. Anyway, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Five star experience, amazing hotel, with both style and comfort

Rating: 10

From the staff to the amenities, it is all top notch, especially for the price. My wife and our friends compared rates and rooms across town, and found this was an economical option, and were hoping it wasn't cut rate, or old and musty, like so many other 'Portland' greats. We weren't dissapointed! I've stayed in hotels that were $250-300 that weren't nearly as nice. No complaints, we'll be back.

Terrible experience ..no communication from hotel...

Rating: 2

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel on a recent trip to portland. We both liked the aesthetic of the place especially the unique outdoor courtyard area. We had a nice time and would've stayed there again if not for the fact that they totally screwed us and ended up being the biggest A-holes that Iwe have ever delt with. We were checking our monthly credit card statement and noticed that there was an extra charge for "lodging" from the hotel for $ 250.00. When we called the hotel they said that they had evidence that we had smoked in the room. Yes, my boyfriend does smoke, however, he is very courteous and always puts his cigarette butts in the trash. He also despises smoking indoors and would never smoke inside, let alone a room he would be sleeping in. After a frusterating couple calls with hotel employees, we were told that they found cigarette butts in the garbage can of our room and that was proof that he was smoking in the room. He tried to explain that he didn't want to litter on their grounds and so he threw them away in the trash instead of rudely flicking them in the outdoor courtyard area. They refused to listen and insisted that he smoked in the room and this forced them to shampoo the carpet and change the sheets ( hmmm..last time I checked it was sorta standard for hotels to change the linens in between guests ). He asked that the owner call him regarding this issue and it's been almost three days and no response. We've had better customer service from a Motel 6 . So, I guess the moral to this story is to never ever be polite and properly dispose of your cigarette butts. Always discard them outside so they can make their way into our storm drains, rivers, and finally consumed by our wildlife . So if you will be staying at Hotel Modera and happen to have a cigarette be sure to litter it outside or you too could end up with a $250 extra "lodging " charge on your credit card.
