No Hot Water or A/C, Rudest Staff Anywhere!
My husband and I visited this overpriced hellhole for a wedding. We had no hot water the first night of our stay, which I would expect in a room that costs over $200 a night. My sister said she had no A/C in her room for TWO NIGHTS and she finally got moved to another room. The rooms look like college dorms and are dirty. The bathroom door is like a barn door and is so heavy I couldn't close it all the way, and so I had to warn my husband and son when I needed to go. The staff are unbelievably rude, probably because they are local high school and college students earning minimum wage. One night at dinner I asked TWICE for a glass of wine, and when the waitress still didn't bring it, I had to fetch it from the bar myself. During the wedding reception, the banquet room ceiling leaked and the "management" solved this problem by placing a bucket under the leak. Just what you want at your wedding reception! The bride was extremely disappointed. This place is ridiculously overpriced and I would NOT recommend it!
Lovely and Relaxing
The rooms are modern and minimalist--very soothing and comfortable. The grounds are SO lovely, and there's a friendly "grounds cat" named Zoe who will follow you around demanding love. The staff are accomodating and the environment is utterly relaxing. A great place to go and truly get away from it all.
A modernist gem in the Deep South
Love this place--we stay here whenever we come to Charleston. It's a little ways outside of town, but worth the drive. If you're into modern architecture, this place is a treat. Clean, elegant lines of the hotel contrast nicely with the lush surroundings and antebellum plantation next door (Middleton Place). Very secluded and romantic setting--perfect for an anniversary getaway. Also, if you stay at the hotel you have free access to the plantation and its surrounding gardens. Great views of the Ashley River and the marshlands.
