Malmaison Oxford
Now a part of the UK's Malmaison chain, this hotel was once a former prison, the HM Oxford Prison. Today it's been renovated into a swank boutique hotel with fine food and drink. But the former prison life remains in structure as you sleep in "cells" with castellated walls.

Head upstairs to the bar. No need to be a guest, and the cocktails, while on the pricey side, are very much worth the money. -
Fantastic building, very cleverly designed, retaining some of the features of the old prison. Rooms very stylish but lighting very dim. Disappointed that the barman had never heard of a Moscow Mule. -
Great parking valet man - helpful and friendly! -
Head downstairs to the brasserie. Ask to see an original cell room. Awesome. -
This is an atmospheric restaurant located in the converted cells of Oxford’s old prison in the heart of the historic Oxford Castle site. The menu changes seasonally and the food is sourced locally. -

This hotel is fabulous--enjoy the spa products, especially the bath oil. The Bar/Brasserie in the cellar is a great place for a drink.
