Partner Reviews: Magnolia Hotel
worst hotel experience imaginable
I've been in this hotel an hour and it's already been the worst hour of my life. And since the Magnolia doesn't participate in any hotel programs or frequent flier programs I'm not even going to get credit or miles for this hell. I have a meeting in approximately five hours and a room with the windows painted shut and nonworking AC
Avoid their car service
The car service the Magnolia Hotel referred me to charged me DOUBLE the fair for a taxi for picking me up at the airport. Advise- Drive yourself or use a cab. The Hotel otherwise was ok.
We decided on Vegas but ended up Downtown Houston (for way more benefits & less $$)
Checked in - New Year's Day. Downtown houston was dead - I guess from the parties the night before for NYE. We absolutely loved our stay @ Magnolia!! We live in Spring and decided we would stay in town rather than go on our annual trip to Vegas. The rooms are beautiful, soft beds and comfortable. We wanted to get the most of our 3 day stay and was able to check in before 3pm (normal check-in) hotel hosted a complimentary happy hour of beer, wine and soft drinks - SUPER!! (saved money here especially since most businesses downtown were closed), enjoyed evening with cookies & milk (Loved the white chocolate w/cranberry cookes) and breakfast each morning consisting of hot foods not the ordinary continental breakfast with danish & juice - they offered bacon, eggs, potatoes, fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. I agree, the rooftop pool is nice, but very small (3ft). The view of Houston made up for it though - Ambiance, friendly staff and Christmas decor made us feel like we were out of town with more benefits & less money than Vegas offers. With all the hype of recession, loss of jobs, etc - it was nice to get away from it all in the little days of our stay. Be good to yourself. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009!
Nice and Swanky
I have stayed here a couple of times on business. They have a nice workout facility and pool on the roof. It is lovely place to stay and is ...
The Best Hotel in Houston!
This hotel is my favorite hotel in Houston. Even though we live in Houston, my girlfriend and I like to stay at a hotel at least once a month for a little vacation away from home and the Magnolia is by far our favorite. The rooms are beautifully furnished and comfortable. The last time we stayed there, my girlfriend was returning from a trip, so I wanted to check in early before picking her up at the airport and the staff happily accommodated me, allowing me to check in just after 12:00. The happy hour with complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks is a great plus and we absolutely love the cookie and milk buffet in the evening. The cookies are fresh-baked and served warm with ice-cold milk. The complimentary breakfast was incredible--not your average breakfast that you get at other hotels--they offer bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns and much more, all included in the price of the room. The rooftop pool is nice, but very small.
Love this Hotel....
Just completed my fourth stay at the Magnolia and our visits there never disappoint, in fact get better with each stay. The rooms are wonderful and the staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful.... The stay at the hotel has become one of the reasons for our trips to Houston. I look forward to reading the paper with a cup of coffee in the early moring on the roof top pool...... what a great way to start the day.
Gorgeous hotel with exceptional service
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Magnolia Hotel in June of 2007 and had a wonderful experience. The service was great and the rooms were gorgeous! The bathroom was very very luxurious and spacious. This is by far the best hotel that I have stayed in. The only problems that we found was the nightlife was very hard to find and the parking was very confusing. We ended up in a side parking lot that told us we could park there all night and the next morning at 8 am when we went to get our car, the attendent told us we owed another $20!! But, to be clear this was not hotel parking and is not the hotels fault just sort out where you are going to park before you get there.
So luxe, so convenient
For a best friends reunion, I booked a double in this hotel, expecting quiet time and relaxing with a friend from childhood. The hotel was the perfect spot, close to the theatre district and near enough to music venue that we didn't have to schlep all over the city to do what we wanted. We enjoyed the plush furnishings and accommodations. The staff was also quite helpful.
Beautiful Room - Great Stay!
Loved my room and my stay at this hotel! A very pretty/contemporary room with nice linens, toiletries, furniture, et al. Quiet; an all -around lovely hotel.
Good Business Trip
I had a business convention in Huston November 2006 and was put up at the Magnolia. The rooms were nice and clean. The building was prety quiet, I had WiFI in my room so I was able to get some work done. The rest of the hotel seemed nice, though I didn't have alot of time to enjoy the amenities. The staff was friendly. Good Spot for a business trip
Great Hotel!
The Magnolia hotel is a great spot for a special weekend. The rooms are very elegant, the bedding is very plush, and the rooftop pool gives you a very cool view of downtown Houston. They even do cool weekend packages that include a meal at Bossa around the corner.
Great location
Really nice hotel with great and friendly staff. Hotel does not provide parking, but valet parking can be charged to your room for ~$22/day. Walking distance to Minute Maid Park and lots of other restaurants and bars. Pool is very small and closes fairly early in the evening (door locks, so no swimming after closing time). Nice deep tub with shower and lots of other ammenities to make for a good stay.
We'll be back!
My husband and I are Sugar Land residents and stayed at the Magnolia on a Saturday evening. We absolutely loved our stay and will be back for another weekend get-away. We enjoyed lounging by the rooftop pool during the day (although they really need to add some lounge chairs instead of uncomfortable wooden chairs) and hanging out in the Magnolia Club in the evening enjoying the complimentary cookies and milk. The hotel is located one block from Main Street, so dining and clubs are very convenient. We'll also stay when we come downtown for a ballgame or theater district event. A great place for a weekend get-away!!!
Great hotel, great location
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Magnolia in Feb 2006 to go to a weekend long college baseball tournament at Houston's Minute Maid Park. The hotel itself has a great look, and great atmosphere. The staff was very professional, pleasant and helpful. There was live Jazz in the bar and lots of extras. Close to Minute Maid Park and very close to great dining. There are un associated surface lots and garages within a couple blocks of the hotel. The only hotel parking is valet, but it was reasonably priced.
Staff problems
The story is too long for 150 words. I have stayed at the Magnolia hotel twice. On each occassion, I found some of the desk clerks unconcerned about customer complaints. On the second occassion, the manager was rude. It was an embarrassing situation considering I had recommended staying here with friends. This was my last visit.
cool place
This is a very cool old hotel in downtown Houston, updated to be trendy/hip. Pretty expensive, but you get something for your money. Nice ...
beautiful
This hotel is gorgeous, and reasonably priced. Parking is difficult though, and I was a little disappointed that the rooftop pool (obviousl...
The Pitts! POOR SERVICE!!!!!!!!
We decided to stay at this hotel after our wedding and it was the worst decision we could have made. It was about 85 degrees the first room we were given although the air was blowing and the thermostat was set to 66. The second room (on a different floor) was just the same - about 85 degrees although the air was blowing and the thermostat was set to 65. We decided to leave the hotel and requested no charge to our credit card. The service from the front desk was atrocious. While they did not charge us that is all they did for us. They also did not offer an apology for the inconvenience or offer to make it right as you would expect a luxury hotel to do! No only will we not return, we will not recommend this hotel to any one!
I'll Be Back again and again!!!
I stayed here almost a year ago and had the nicest suite imaginable. It was like a modern loft downtown! The bar makes some of the best martini's in town and the waitstaff has some eyecandy. The IT staff was brilliant when I had trouble with my laptop! Free in room HSIA and public hotspots.
Fantastic Value
Great hotel in a very convienient location right in the heart of the historial district. The rooms were very modern, large, with high quality amenties. Awesome value for what you get. Definitely will stay here again the next time i'm in Houston.
Wonderful!
My husband and I stayed there just for fun one weekend and found this to be a wonderful place to stay. The decor is contemporary but not cold. All the extras (happy hour, milk and cookies, etc.) make the hotel a great value as well.
Great getaway
My husband and I impulsively decided to book a room the day before Valentine's Day weekend for Saturday night. We found a great rate on the Internet. The hotel is fancy and modern, but definitely not pretentious. There are tons of nice touches - bowls of chocolates at the check-in counter, one free drink per guest at the happy hour reception, snacks at the reception, apples and bottled water at check-out, and free cookies and milk every night (how cute is that!). There is also complimentary breakfast - an amenity not very common in other fancy hotels. There were bathrobes in our room, and a rooftop pool and hot tub. The hotel is very close to many downtown attractions and great restaurants. The hotel bar itself had a jazz band in the evening. We couldn't have asked for more in our romantic weekend getaway!
Great Place to Stay!
I travel to Houston 12-15x per year on business and will not stay anywhere but the Magnolia, given my choice. The rooms are great, the service is great, the bar is great... Get the idea?
Awesome Downtown Hotel (and bar!)
We stayed at the Magnolia Hotel after our wedding. The location was perfect, the room was gorgeous, and the service was awesome. Good rate, too. We had several guests at the hotel. They were very happy with the hotel's car service. The bar is great. Good happy hour specials. Highly recommend!
Great place!
This is a wonderful hotel. The view is really nice, very good location ( a few blocks from main street and the metro rail road). Very fancy and great service.
Horific service
I have never seen a more unorganized management staff in my entire life. I was fortunate enough to have to reschedule my dinner after I stood for 1 HOUR at the check-in line on June 26th. The manager was unappologetic for his incompetence and blamed it on a large group that was checking in. NEWSFLASH, every hotel has large groups checking in almost every day and I have never waited more than 15-20 minutes at any hotel. Fortunately, there are several up-scale boutique hotels in houston, and from now on I'll stay at the Icon or the Inn at the Ballpark.

Car parking situation is only valet - wicked annoying. Lengthy wait time. -
Studio suites have a full kitchenette, 2 free drinks at happy hour, milk and cookie buffet, and pretty good free breakfast buffet... -
When trying to unwind stop by the bar and ask for Jessica. If she's in, ask her for her west coast special...and tell her Johnny sent you! -
The gym is a tad small here. While running, I almost fell over the guy lifting weights next to me. -
Happy hour plus cookie and milk buffet at night.... SCORE! -
Happy hour specials PLUS milk and cookie buffet every night. Score! -
Milk and cookies every night from 8 to 10 p.m.
